"'Created by Wasteland scientists, the Gyrocopter is an intermeshing blade, multi-role aircraft. The insectoid landing gear enables it to "drive" when on the ground, as well as land in rough, uneven terrain., Its development is a direct response to the threat of a "Logic Virus"-- a little understood but highly dangerous transmissible "disease" that overrides and corrupts the mental faculties of robotic dragons. The most well-known case of a logic virus would be found on Lunar Mine 459-BP, where a Robodon went rogue and terrorized the facility. Researchers have had little success in producing a cure."

The 's name is derived from ancient Greek γῦρος (gûros), meaning "circle", and the English suffix -copter. It also shares its name with the gyrocopter rotorcraft, also known as an autogyro. Despite sharing its name with the autogyro rotorcraft, the shares many features with helicopters and is equipped with two intermeshing rotors, whereas modern autogyros typically have one rotor. The was stated to have incorporated dragonfly design elements but was primarily based off of helicopters. It also borrows design elements from the Warrior Bugs seen in the Starship Troopers franchise.
