The name of the seems to derive from Latin malus, meaning "bad" or "evil", from English "serpent", and from the Finnish suffix -tys. The 's concept art presents doodles of the concept artist's four pet guinea pigs. The has permanent Neon material on some tertiary region parts of its body. Upon release, the had an issue with one of its hind legs. This was fixed sometime during its season. For a little while after its release, the 's eyes were bugged and clipping into its forehead during its idle. This was fixed sometime during Season 4. However, while the eyes were fixed, the 's hind legs were back to being bugged.
