Gaben is a nickname for Gabe Newell, derived from his email address: "gaben@valvesoftware.com" Gaben is the co-founder and president of the game company Valve and game distribution platform Steam, as well as a driving force behind many cult classic games made in the Source Engine and beyond, such as Half-Life, Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2. Gaben is well known as the face of Steam and to an extent, Team Fortress 2, and as such, is associated with the concept of Steam Sales and Random Critical Hits respectively.
