Blox Fruits Races & Fruit Awakenings Explained
Updated Jul 22, 2026
Quick answer
Two systems separate a leveled character from a built one in Blox Fruits: your race and your fruit's awakening. Here's how both actually work.
Races
Every player has a race — Human, Skypiean, Mink, Fishman, Ghoul or Cyborg — each with passive perks and, at higher stages, active abilities. You're assigned one when you start; changing races is done through in-game rerolls and quest chains rather than a menu toggle.
What they're for, broadly: Mink favors speed and mobility (a PvP darling), Fishman rules water content, Skypiean suits aerial and ranged play, Human is the balanced baseline with underrated versatility, and Ghoul/Cyborg come from their own unlock quest lines with distinctive combat identities. Races also upgrade through stages via progression quests, and upgraded races are a big slice of endgame power — a maxed race passive can decide close PvP fights.
The practical advice: don't reroll obsessively at mid-levels. Race power matters most at endgame, and most builds can win with most races — pick the one matching your combat style (melee rushdown wants mobility; zoners want range support) and invest in its stages.
Fruit awakenings
Awakening upgrades a fruit's moveset into a stronger form — new versions of its abilities with better damage and properties. Awakenings are unlocked per-move using fragments, earned primarily through raids: complete the raid for your fruit's type, spend fragments, awaken the next move.
Three things that surprise people:
Fruit awakenings
- Awakening is per-fruit knowledge, not account-wide power
Eat a different fruit and you're using its base kit until you awaken that one too.
- Not every fruit has an awakening
the roster of awakenable fruits is limited (the elemental classics dominate the list). Check your fruit's page in our fruits database before grinding raids for it.
- Fragments are the real currency of endgame
budget them; awakening the wrong fruit first is the classic regret.
How they combine
Endgame builds are race + fruit + fighting style working together: a Mink speedster running an awakened rushdown fruit plays nothing like a Skypiean zoner with an awakened elemental. Our best fruits guide covers which fruits deserve the fragment investment this patch.
