Appearance
has an appearance based off FE2's Familiar Ruins, which is a map of the "Flood Escape: Classic" lobby turned to ruins. Crates, boards, dead bodies and broken structures are dotted over the map, along with numerous closed off doors to Adventure, Training and Extreme mode. The main areas of attraction include the Main Building, a large building containing 3 broken difficulty elevators and 3 entrances/exits, and a large hill that acts as an uphill section, with only a ramp as an entrance/exit and a drop off as a one-way exit. Cracks on the walls and broken gaps in the floors hold red lava alongside fire in them, inflicting for 4 seconds if stepped on. The entire map is surrounded by an ocean of lava, the amount of flames and heat creating a red atmosphere. Multiple secrets can be seen such as an orb creature, a slightly open door showing The Guide, a smiley face behind the Main Building and most notably a written message paired with a photo of CrazyBlox and The Guide.
Spawns
There are 5 generators in this map, with 7 random locations they may spawn in. There can be 2-5 items in this map, with 6 random locations they may spawn in. There are 2 random locations these may spawn in. There are 4 random locations these may spawn in. There are currently 5 known Survivor spawns and 1 known Killer spawn.
Strategy
Stay away from the lava as it can reduce your health by dealing chip damage. The up-hill section could (if you are experienced) be a looping spot, which can become quite annoying for the Killer. Due to the Killer's high health, the damage caused by the lava is negligible. This lets Killers cross gaps faster, which can come in very handy for the Killer to cut off Survivors or catch up faster.
LORE
Familiar Ruins' lore is based off of Chris Semler's theory, with a diversion somewhere that leads to the FORSAKEN outcome. In summary of that: Flood Escape: Classic was built on top a volcanic island The volcano exploded, causing the facility to break down, partially because of the volcano, and partially because Crazyblox failed to maintain the facility. This caused a massive explosion because the salty seawater also started flooding in due to Crazyblox not maintaining the facility. Crazyblox's negligence of FE:C is further proved because in the first trailer, it is shown as shiny and clean, but in the last preview, the metal is tattered and rusty. The Guide, who was an NPC (likely created by Crazyblox) helped people out in FE:C. It was an average day, but almost nobody came to FE:C. Suddenly, the volcanic island started to shake. The Guide rushed into the main building and the basement of the facility (the Flood Gauntlet) was completely filled with lava, and it was RISING. Soon after, the walls gave way and salty seawater started pouring in. The Guide rushed into the Training Room, where he did not know if he would be safe, but it would be his only option. This is further proved as the exit area in Familiar Ruins (in FE2) was the training room. After much time, the blowout finally stopped and the Guide was finally safe to explore, beneath the ruins. Play Beneath the Ruins in FE2 to get a description on how the facility was destroyed underneath. The Guide reached a small room which had a table and a paper that read: "Flood Escape 2". At this, the Guide felt forgotten.
Patch history
The map's ambience is named after Familiar Ruins's original name in FE2, DEJA VU. It's the only map to come from a collab. The ajar door which shows The Guide is the door that players come out of when they escape a flood in FE:C. The glow behind the door is based off the glow of the exit in FE:C when completing the code breaker, or it could also be based off the color of exit doors in FE2. This is the first map that has the ability to kill players, if Yorick's Resting Place is not counted back when its rivers that applied could also kill players. This is also the first map to apply different status effects depending on the variant, as its Classic variant applies instead of. This map was considered by the community to be the "most survivor-sided map" when it first released, due to its various looping spots and elevations proving troublesome for some killers, which resulted in it receiving various changes after the C00lest Christmas Event update, such as more killer doors and the complete removal of the upstairs area in the main building. It was also considered to be the best map for Veeronica, because of the graffiti spots it had and her being able to get the killer off the upstairs area.
