He smiled as he fell back toward the earth. He had seen a brilliant light; gleaming, impossible, everyone said. Yet he knew that glow could be reached. And so he soared, higher and higher, reaching out for the celestial nobody could have. As he climbed into uncharted skies, the heat sharpened, the light blazed him. Yet he pushed upward, wings trembling, the shards melting under the sun’s relentless gaze. At last, he touched that shining surface; just as his wings gave way, melting against his skin. His body failed him, and he began his long descent. But he was content. For he had been the one who dared to kiss the sun.

Appearance
