MM2 Chroma Weapons & Effects Explained
Updated Jul 14, 2026
"Chroma" and "Effects" get mixed up a lot in Murder Mystery 2, but they're two completely different things. Here's the difference.
Chroma weapons
Chroma weapons are animated, rainbow-cycling variants of specific Godly weapons (Chroma Luger, Chroma Seer, Chroma Laser, and so on). They are:
- Extremely rare to unbox — during Season 1, every box gave a chroma godly, which is why some exist at all.
- Tradable, with real community value.
- Still part of the Godly tier — Chroma is a variant label, not its own rarity.
There are roughly 35 chroma weapons in the game.
Effects
Effects are cosmetic particle and kill effects you equip on a knife — Radioactive, Flaming Knife, Musical, Heartify, Darkfire and more. They:
- Are bought with Coins/Robux or won in events.
- Are untradable (they have no trade value).
- Change how your knife looks, not what it is.
The quick way to remember it
- Chroma = a rare rainbow version of a godly weapon (tradable, valuable).
- Effect = a cosmetic you slap onto a knife (untradable, personal).
If someone offers to "trade you an effect," they can't — effects can't leave your inventory.
