MM2 Roles Explained — Murderer, Sheriff & Innocent
Updated Jul 14, 2026
Murder Mystery 2 is a round-based game where everyone is randomly given one of three roles each round. Here's what each role does and how to win.
Murderer (1 per round)
You spawn with a knife. Your job is to eliminate everyone without getting shot by the Sheriff. Blend in with the crowd, isolate players, and don't get caught throwing. The longer you play without drawing Murderer, the higher your odds of getting it next round.
Sheriff (1 per round)
You spawn with a gun. Your job is to find and shoot the Murderer while protecting the Innocents. Be careful: shooting an Innocent kills both you and them, so only fire when you're sure.
Innocent (everyone else)
You're unarmed. Survive, watch for suspicious behaviour, and help the Sheriff identify the Murderer by pointing them out. There are up to 10 Innocents per round (players minus 2).
Hero (the bonus role)
If the Sheriff dies, misfires, or resets, they drop their gun. An Innocent who picks it up becomes the Hero and takes over the Sheriff's job — hunt the Murderer.
Round tips
- Watch how players move — Murderers often trail lone targets.
- As Sheriff, wait for the Murderer to commit before firing.
- Some maps (like Bank) add mechanics such as metal detectors that flag hidden weapons.
