The is somewhat similar to the Shotgun. It shoots 5 bullets at once, which deals splash damage. Each individual bullet deals 7 damage, and there is no damage dropoff. There is a decent amount of spread, so hitting shots from further away is more difficult.

Ability — Vortex
The has an ability to eject a projectile that both looks and functions similar to a black hole. When it makes contact with a surface, it will expand into a vortex that pulls players towards the center of it.
Patch history
The vortex used to affect every player in its area, including the team which placed it. However, this was patched in Update 16 (Part 2). The and the were the first weapons added into the game. There is a small chance that when the enemy is released from the vortex they will be ejected into the air. The Distortion is one of the few long ranged primary weapons that can bypass besides the and.
