Behavior
A bear will wander aimlessly until a player gets within its detection radius or does damage. If a bear has entered its passive state far enough away from their original spawn point, they will teleport back, creating a puff of smoke. If killed, a bear may respawn after a Day. Once a bear detects a player, it will chase them until either the player dies or escapes its detection radius. Upon getting close, a bear will attack a player. Sometimes, they may also run away a short distance away from the player after attacking. If a bear is attacked by a player's Pet, they will switch to targeting the Pet until a player attacks them again. If a player has a Strong Taming Flute or above, they can click on a bear to start the taming minigame. While the minigame plays, the bear will be docile. Once it has been completed, the bear will ask for a Steak, Pumpkin and Salmon. The process must be repeated three times(or 2 times if you are using the zookeeper class at max level)
Drops
Upon death, a bear may drop the following Items: Killing the last guardian bear of a Locked Cave will additionally drop the following items
Tips
Use ranged weapons, due to a bear's high HP and high damage. A player can engage a bear with weaker weapons such as the Revolver or Raygun to make it face towards them, then using stronger weapons such as the Rifle or Tactical Shotgun to maximise headshot damage. This is not needed with the Laser Cannon, as it does not deal extra headshot damage. While a bear has a very large attack range, it is still possible to kill them with Melee Weapons. Bears often get stuck on the environment, players should use this to escape. Bear traps can be used to easily farm bears for meat and pelts or clear a cave to rescue a child. A bear will die to 4 hits from a bear trap. When purchasing the bear trap from the crafting bench, it will appear in the inventory as a blueprint on the hotbar. Go to a cave or area where bears spawn and place the trap(s), luring bears over them. If there is another player, one can distract the bear and after it walks through the trap(s), the 2nd player can reset the trap(s) and repeat. If playing solo, purchase 4 traps and place them down in a 2x2 square pattern, aggravate the bear and lead it through the traps. After the bear trap is triggered, it may be dragged to a new location by dragging. Bears have high reach for some reason
Patch history
The bear is likely a Grizzly Bear, although not all Grizzly Bears are brown. During the cutscene introducing The Deer, a bear's corpse can be seen being eaten by the Deer. There is a version of the bear in the ice biome called the Polar Bear, which is slightly stronger. You can get a Bear Corpse from the Dead Tree. Bears are also the guardians of the 3rd and 4th missing children. Bears are also the only entity to protect 2 missing kids.
