Behavior

=== Passive === A wolf will wander aimlessly until a player gets within its detection radius or deals damage. If a wolf has entered its passive state far enough away from their original spawn point, they will teleport back, creating a puff of smoke. If killed, a wolf may respawn after a Day.

Tips & tricks

• Players should avoid fighting wolves early and instead focus on opening Chests. • However players can kill them even with an Old Axe by circling around while attacking. On PC, users can press Ctrl once to lock camera angle, which helps to get a better angle to hit the wolf from. • A Bear Trap can instantly kill a wolf. • However, they are costly in the early game and not recommended unless one has the Hunter Class. • Do not linger inside a location at night for too long, otherwise wolves may spawn. • If past day 15, Alpha Wolves might also spawn along. • Wolves that spawned on the player during night time are untameable and will despawn the next day if not killed.

Trivia

• In real life, wolves live in groups and are not solitary animals like the Arctic Fox. • Ironically, in-game arctic foxes spawn in groups and detect the player when a nearby arctic fox takes damage. • The wolf is one of the entities that spawn with specific structures, being the Large Cabin, The Dino Kid's Cave and the Cultist Church. • Standing on top of a shelf in a Large Cabin or climbing onto a Treehouse ladder makes players unreachable to wolves. • During the party event, a wolf with glowing blue eyes spawned. It didn't attack or attempt to kill players, but it protected them by scaring other enemies away. This is called the "Good Wolf". • They have a low chance of spawning however.
