The Old Axe is the default starting tool in 99 Nights in the Forest. It cuts trees for campfire fuel and can hit creatures, but its thirteen-hit tree cut is slow compared with later axes.
How to get it
Starts in the player's inventory on spawning, unless the Lumberjack class replaces it with a Good Axe.

Starting tool
Most players spawn with an Old Axe, so it is the first way to collect logs for a campfire. Lumberjack class players start with a Good Axe instead.
When to upgrade
The axe wiki lists thirteen hits per ordinary tree, or seven with an Axe Trim Kit. A Good Axe cuts one in five hits and the Strong Axe in one, so replacing the starting tool has a large effect on wood gathering.
