Appearance

This Trinket is depicted as large, wide, black or dark gray chunks of coal consisting of three pieces of varying sizes but similar appearances. One piece is large, another is tiny, and the last is minuscule, appearing to have broken off from one of the other pieces. The smallest piece rests between its larger neighbors.

Strategies

Coal is an overall bad Trinket as it does not provide any benefits, therefore its usage should be avoided altogether. Even its usage as a distractor Trinket is not worth it given already does the job better as it doesn't reduce speed. The one scenario where equipping this Trinket might be mildly viable is if you are playing as a Toon with very high Movement Speed and high or average Stealth (e.g. or on odd Floors) and intend to act as a distractor. However, not even can fully deplete its speed debuff, instead leaving the user with a -1% Walk Speed debuff alongside the -10% Run Speed, meaning it's truly not worth it. Trivia

Coal is the second Trinket that is purely disadvantageous to equip, with the first being. This is also the first Trinket that decreases Stealth, with the second being. Coincidentally, they are both Holiday Trinkets. It is the second Stealth-affecting Trinket, with the first being, and the third being Scrapbook. Coal is the second Trinket to include the same name as its respective Toon, with the first being for and for. Additionally, this is the first and currently only Trinket to have the exact same title as its respective Toon. Using Coal with Scrapbook and combining it with will increase his Stealth Stat to -84.645 instead. This is because if a negative number is subtracted by a percentage, the number will instead increase. This is high enough for Shrimpo to have higher stealth than with his Ability and combined. Coal was originally made because players wanted a way to distract better by lowering their Stealth, and Qwel added reduced Movement Speed as a downside. Coal originally reduced your Movement Speed by 20%, but it was lowered to 10% in the 2025 Christmas Event.
