Appearance

Coal is a dark grey dog-like rock the shape and size of a boulder, with four dark, stubby legs, a similarly rock-like tail and blackish snowflake marks on her cheeks. She has a bored, tired, somewhat cross expression on her face, having dark circles under her eyes (which pop out like 's but not as intensely) and thick, furrowed, squarish brows. Her nose is also somewhat squarish. She wears a red two-sided satchel over her back with a flag on it, the flag having a similar snowflake design to the marks on her face (which is positioned so low on her, it makes her forehead appear large).

Personality

Coal always comes across as grumpy, frequently growling at a low tone. She generally isn't excited about many things, even including the holiday season (as shown in her dialogue with, her Introduction Card, and 's gossip about her). She is gluttonous and always perks up when food is mentioned or promised to her (she grows a little happier when promises her to give her treats). According to, Coal is usually well-behaved (though this might only be because she isn't as hyperactive as her fellow dog friend ).

Requirement Strategies

For the first requirement, focus on picking up and extracting Machines. The Machine and Ornament count increases the further you descend, so you can earn more Ornaments. For the second requirement, you can get Trinkets in two ways: Completing Twisteds Research or buying at Dandy's Store, to do this, go on multiple runs and try to farm as much Ichor as possible, collecting Research Capsules or extracting machines, and if you can buy from Dandy's Store, start by the cheapest ones, like and.

Golden Skin Quests

Reward: Skin For the first task, play normally until you find, get in her sight, then try to find her again in another Floor. It should be noted that you'll likely have better luck when she is on the Daily Twisted Board. It's also important to consider that the odds for encountering Rare Twisteds go up the higher you go, so try going as high as possible. For the second task, try and get a good team to help you reach your goal. You should also try and equip a Movement Speed or Stealth Trinket like or to try and negate some of Coal's effects. Diary is the best pick here if you are in a public run, so that you don't take Twisteds to yourself due to your lowered Stealth. For the third task, you should try and use and/or to lower Coal's Ability cooldown, so you can highlight and pick up most of the Items on Floors. Then, try and prioritize Boxes o' Chocolates and Gumballs, as they help you use Items more. If you're having trouble with people taking all the Items, you should try to either communicate with them or do a solo run. You could invite people to play as one of the few Item-dropping Toons, being, or, and collect the Items they drop. To complete all tasks in tandem, do one run with Coal and reach Floor 10. Then, repeatedly reach Floor 5-10 and restart the run, as those Floors are when Twisted Coal are the most likely to spawn. While playing, take Items on the Floor as you progress.

Strategies

Coal is a decent distractor and support Toon. With 4 Movement Speed and Stamina, she has the capability to be a good distractor if used correctly. Her Statistics are exactly the same as 's, however, her Active Ability, does not help much with distraction, unless certain Trinkets are being used, like. Coal, with her Scout Ability, can help find for, and, help locate Health Kits and Bandages for and, find helpful Items for Toons with lower stats, and is overall very useful during Events. Her Ability is similar to 's Passive Ability, Fetch!, though Pebble's Ability is constant with nearby items (only highlighted for himself) whilst Coal's is temporary (but highlighted for everyone in the run). Coal is best used in a team as opposed to runs with few players, as her Active Ability is great at benefiting the whole team. Pebble's Active Ability is better for survivability than support, but can be used for such. Usually, the average Coal player uses their Active Ability when a new Floor starts, but sometimes it's best to not use it on scarier floors or in Blackouts as people usually won't pay attention or notice it. It may be a great idea to use Scout during the middle-to-end of a floor, to ensure no items or tapes have been missed (this is especially beneficial to Sprout and Teagan, as they can locate Tapes and Items they may have forgotten to pick up). Coal is usually outclassed by other Toons, as Flutter is a better distractor despite generally being regarded and Pebble is better at finding Items/generally contributing.

Patch history

Coal, and her owner are the first Holiday Toons to be added to the game. Coal is the first female Toon to not have eyelashes because the hypothetical combination of that and her eyes being 3D would not work properly. Coal's Active Ability is similar to 's old Active Ability with the difference being that Items are highlighted for everyone rather than just herself. Coal's Ability also used to have a cooldown of 100 seconds, but in the 2025 Christmas Event, the cooldown was reduced to 30 seconds. This is the largest decrease in Ability cooldown so far in the Game's history. Coal's interaction with implies Bobette overfeeds her, and her interaction with further adds to this, as Coal barks out of implied happiness when promised treats. It can also be implied she might be overweight, even if she were to be coded after a naturally large dog breed, and might be even more rotund than all the other confirmed chubby Toons. Coal is the only Christmas Toon to not have been teased prior to the Christmas Event. This makes her one of the few Toons that came out as a surprise, sharing this trait with or, as they were not teased prior to their respective updates either. Coal is the second Toon (after Pebble) to have 3D eyes as opposed to the usual 2D eyes. When Bobette gossips about Pebble, it's revealed him and Coal are friends. Their friendship is further emphasized with how one of Coal's Mastery quests include surviving 5 rounds with him. Coal and Pebble aren't related.
