The Spear is a melee weapon that is typically used in the early to middle stages of the game. Compared to other early game weapons, such as Axes and the Revolver, it deals much higher damage per second but also risks taking damage. The Spear is obtainable from the following Chests

Tips
The extra range of the Spear lets players hit entities while avoiding damage via running in circles. The Bear is tougher to utilize this tip and is more likely to damage players due to their large range. With some practice, you can also kill these entities by constantly backpedaling while sprinting with short pauses to swing the spear and then continue backpedaling. However, the circling strategy is more common and preferred. When using the backpedal method, aim the spear a little high and resume backpedaling right before the spear finishing its thrust/attack animation. This method is best done with the Brawler class for quicker kills with the extra melee damage but can be performed by any class. This method is generally used to wipe groups out faster utilizing melees high DPS and AOE. Melee use saves ammo as well... Utilize melee when at full health until a comfortable amount has been depleted. Ranged weapons create many safer strategies allowing more control with damage taken. A great tip for melee advantage is to overload the server with npc corpses (mostly cultists). When piled into a hole the physics mechanics create a delay server side and will be visible in enemies you encounter. Your system will also lag, so there is a balance to obtain. It is very noticeable — even the enemy's walk speed is reduced, and circling strategy opens up becoming easier to implement. Do not disregard piling into a hole or pond. It is an important factor to achieve this result, and it also reaches desirable results much sooner when utilized this way.
