Overview[1]
Terrapin Island is a large island in the First Sea located South-West of Moosewood.
Terrapin Island, a turtle-shaped landmass located directly south of Moosewood, is covered with diverse vegetation, including palm trees and bushes. Its rocky shores feature some sandy beaches on the west side, where its few inhabitants reside. Remnants of human activity are present, featuring popup shelters, lanterns, barrels, and three NPCs; those being Shipwright, Angler, and Jack. They are located on the island's left “fin,” where interactions and item purchases occur. Abandoned shelters, lanterns, and a cellar door are also scattered across the island along with a Hideaway near the middle of the island. Terrapin Island has two summits. The central “back” summit is minor, with little but trees and sand. The higher “head” summit offers views of the surrounding waters but contains no significant features or climbing remnants. The west side hosts the Shipwright, Angler, and Jack. Shipwright provides access to a catalog of ships and offers the only available rod, the Magnet Rod, as well as a Fish Radar, Quality Bait Crates, and Tempest Totems. Close to The Ocean, the Angler offers fish-related quests with rewards. Jack provides unique lore about the island, though he does not reside there. There is a new shrine there to the boss fight against Cthulhu.

Lore
There is a good amount of given lore about the island by the NPC Jack. Listed below is all of the lore provided by him: Terrapin is a very special island surrounded by rocks, which makes the water shallow and enclosed. The rocks around the island host an extreme amount of special algae which filter out the salt water. All the fish around Terrapin Island are freshwater fish. The island is basically uninhabited outside of a few campers and fishers who can be found around the island. The island is shaped like a turtle! There are no turtles on the island, however, you can catch a few in the waters!
Speculated Lore
It is likely that Terrapin Island once served as a shipping outpost. Materials, shelters, and the hidden Terrapin Hideaway hint at a past population. A rope and pulley system near the natural harbor may have been used for unloading supplies. An abandoned, tilted lighthouse to the northwest suggests it once guided ships through the shallow waters but is now inaccessible.
Trivia
On the cliffside near the White Bass Abundance, there is an opening covered by vines that leads to a small cave known as the Terrapin Hideaway. There is a room blocked off by wooden frames, but there are only crates and barrels inside. Category:Locations Category:First Sea
