Quick answer

Base crops pay the bills in Grow a Garden 2; mutations and Mega Seeds build the fortune. Here's how the value-multiplying layer works.

Mutations

Mutated crops sell for multiples of their base value. Mutations arrive through:

Never reflex-sell a mutated crop. Check its price, then Bargain it (see our haggle guide) — mutations plus a good haggle is the biggest single-sale money in the game.

  • The Aurora Borealis — overnight, the aurora sweeps random gardens and mutates random crops. It's free value for anyone with crops in the ground overnight (balance this against Nightfall theft — growing crops are theft-safe, ripe ones aren't).
  • Weather and event effects — special conditions apply their own mutation rolls.
  • Mutation-boosting pets — several pets carry passives that raise mutation odds on your plot; they're among the most valuable pets in the game for exactly this reason.

Mega Seeds

Mega Seeds grow into higher-value versions of their crop — bigger base price means every downstream multiplier (mutation, haggle) compounds harder. Treat them as investment vehicles: plant Mega Seeds in your safest, most defended beds, ideally timed so they ripen right before you're online to harvest.

Stacking the whole pipeline

The ceiling play in GaG2 is multiplicative:

Mega Seed → mutation odds (pet passives + aurora nights) → harvest before Nightfall → batch Bargain.

Each step multiplies the last. A mutated Mega crop sold through a good haggle can outearn an entire bed of ordinary harvests — that pipeline is what our tier list rates crops and pets against.
