Appearance

The Hiders appear as flat, paper-thin, bald creatures with eyes and a grin similar to the Stalker's. They are slightly transparent, and their color changes slightly depending on the wall they are attached to. When they are provoked, their face will appear hollow, similar to the Head Banger's and they become black.

Behavior

Hiders have a chance of spawning in groups of 1–6 inside most rooms and hallways throughout the hospital. They camouflage themselves to blend in with the surrounding wall, leaving only their face and a faint outline of their bodies visible. If viewed from a distance, they remain still. However, if a player approaches while looking at one, it jumps off the wall, its body turns black, and it chases the player for about 5–6 seconds before evaporating into a cloud of particles. If the player is unaware of a Hider and it catches them, it will attack. The first time, it steals the player's currently equipped Treatment item, if any, and briefly stuns them. If the player has no items left and is caught again, they instead lose 10 Sanity. Hiders can be heard breathing heavily when a player gets too close. They also make a distorted sound effect when disappearing.

Strategies

There are multiple ways to counter Hiders. One of the most common ones is using the Fire Extinguisher on them. It can be used whether they are stationary or actively chasing. Alternatively, they can be tased and disappear the same way or get shot by the gun. A Hider can also be led to the Bed Monster, which will catch them, and hence get rid of both monsters at once. Hiders that are avoided without being aggravated for long enough will eventually despawn on their own. Players should keep a temporary Treatment item equipped whenever multiple Hiders are active, as Hiders will always steal an equipped item before taking Sanity. However, if three or more Hiders attack one after another, they can eventually take all the items in the player's inventory, leaving the player vulnerable to losing 10 Sanity with each attack. In these situations, the best strategy is to outrun any remaining Hiders.

Known Bugs

In Room 6, the X-Ray room, there is a chance that two Hiders will spawn on top of each other and sometimes get stuck, even while in attack mode.

Patch history

A Hider being attacked by the Bed Monster doesn't have any consequences, instead being treated exactly the same way as a player or a patient being caught. Hiders can faint, similarly to patients, if the room they are in catches on fire. If this happens, it will display the message, 'hider has fainted'. This is believed to be a bug. Hiders can blink, unlike other anomalies. The distorted vanishing sound's asset ID can be found here. The gasping sound originates from the alpha four version of the game Hello Neighbor. If you are on top a shelf while a hider is chasing you, the hider will go into the room behind the wall that the shelf is in front of. Their vanishing sound effect perfectly resembles the iconic Roblox horror music when slowed down, which was also used in other Roblox games such as Area 51. Both the Hiders and the Stalker have similar traits and behaviors. They're black entities, and they have the same face and stalker-like behavior. However, it's unknown if these two entities are related.
