Appearance

Mimics vary in appearance but will always have sharp teeth and a gaping mouth with a bit of what seems to be slime in it. It will disguise itself as an normal Patient in order to get into the hospital.

Behavior

Mimics will often not show any signs of being infected when getting admitted into Animal Hospital, instead turning hostile right after being admitted, while being prescribed Treatment, while recovering, or when given Maple Syrup, Organ, Transplant, Cough Syrup as a treatment, it will say: "I'm hungry…", turning into a Mimic. When it turns, it will let out a loud growl and will either crawl or stagger with its mouth open towards the nearest player or patient to attack them, including patients sitting in the Waiting Area. If it attacks a patient, it will trigger an emergency where a Player has to get the monster off of them. If the emergency is completed successfully the freed patient, now panicked, will run out of the hospital. The Mimic can also attack houseplants and won't be count as an animal death. Failure to complete the emergency will result in a recorded animal death. If a Mimic attacks a player, the Player needs to press E to hit the monster's pressure points (around 5-6 times) and escape, at the cost of losing Sanity. In multiplayer, more than one player can attack the Mimic to take it down quicker. When a Mimic is defeated, it will fall to the ground with its mouth wide open. It will shortly return to looking like a normal patient and will walk or run out of the building in fear. Killing an anomaly by giving it the wrong treatment will cause the anomaly to turn into a Mimic upon death. This will not affect the "Animal Deaths" counter. Killing most anomalies (with gun, X-Taser, Taser, etc.) will result in them falling to the ground; and they will appear as a Mimic.

Strategies

The best way to get rid of Mimics is to use either the Gun or Taser on them. The gun will take two shots to kill the Mimic, but only one to stop their attacks. They are slower than the player in speed, so going to the Reception Office to grab the taser is possible. Due to the fact that they make the player's sanity deplete fast if attacked, it is advised to be quick about getting rid of them. You can also lead a Mimic to a patient/visitor. After knocking out the Mimic with either a gun, taser, or by hand, both the Mimic and the patient will flee from the hospital. By doing this, you can get through your Shifts faster by treating less patients. However, you must be prepared to knock out the mimic as fast as possible, as it can kill its targeted patient in less than 20 seconds. Note that this method will result in you receiving less Money and Animal Coins at the end of your shift. A player can fight the Mimics by hand if there is no weapon. More than one player can fight the Mimics which results in the Mimics being defeated quicker. However, fighting a Mimic drains your sanity fast, so it is recommended to only do so as a last resort. The Mimic will only deplete the sanity of the player it is currently attacking, not any other players who intervene, so if a player is fighting a mimic then it should be in your best interest to help. A Mimic might say "I'm hungry..." right after one treatment, get off the bed, and then attack you. It is recommended to observe the patient outside for a minute right after treatment.

Known bugs

Mimics will glitch when trying to attack a patient in the surgery bed, walking endlessly, unless it jumps because of Roblox physics., A similar thing also happens when a Crawler Mimic (or normal mimic) is targeting a Waiting Area Patient.

Patch history

When turning hostile, an audible growl/scream will be heard in the direction of the Mimic. You can hear the footsteps of a Mimic after treating them. If an Anomaly gets close to the Mimic, the Mimic will attack it. If the Anomaly dies, it will still count as a patient death. Knock out the Mimic or tase either to stop the fight without Sanity loss. When you save the Anomaly, it instantly turns hostile (may only work occasionally). It is possible for a Mimic to never become hostile, and after being treated, it might leave the building as normal. A Mimic may also say "I feel funny/weird..." after getting a treatment, then get off the bed, turning hostile. Certain Mimics can crawl on the floor. Its name used to be Skinwalker before the July 12, 2026 update. It's roar sound originates from a boss in the Terraria Calamity Mod, specifically from the Yharon Dragon of Rebirth boss.
