Appearance

Rodger is a brown magnifying glass with a single eye resting in the middle of his lens. His eye is perpetually squinted from above (perhaps in exhaustion, disdain, or focus). He has no visible mouth, but he is still able to speak. His handle has a light purple-ish blue band that goes around it. He wears a gray, almost-black tuxedo jacket with dark blue lapels and cuffs, as well as a white undershirt, and a frilly jabot that is the same color as the band around his handle. He also seems to have no noticeable trousers at the bottom. In his full icon, he carries a brown suitcase with him.

Personality

Rodger is a clever and logical Toon. He formally carries himself and is generally polite and well-spoken. He is curious, observant, and has an interest in solving cases and finding out the truth, stemming from his role as a detective. This interest leads to him often interrogating and conducting interviews with the other Toons, resulting in him coming off as nosy or even pushy at times. Such cases can be seen in his interactions with and, saying, "It may be safer, but uncovering truths is more rewarding!" and, "How about later? I could ask you after this!" even after being turned down. Despite Rodger's pushiness and dedication to his work, he is by no means aloof and is actually quite caring towards his peers. In his dialogues, Rodger frequently compliments the other Toons for their capabilities, inquires about their well-being, and in one instance, even offers advice for calming down. He has adopted some of Glisten's personality traits, according to one of his dialogues with. In some official artwork and doodles (such as on the poster with him, Boxten, ), Rodger seems to be photogenic, as his singular eye expresses happiness whenever he's looking at the camera.

Requirement Strategies

For the first requirement, focus on picking up Research Capsules and extracting Machines. The Machine and Capsule count increases the further you descend, so you can earn more. For the second requirement, have a Distractor Toon bring any Twisted to the elevator to you so you can get aggro. It is recommended to get Research for Twisteds, since they have a higher chance of appearing during the Floors. Another option is to get research is from the Twisted that is on the Daily Twisted Board.

Strategies

Rodger's main purpose lies in collecting Research (and for lack of other proficiencies, ). He makes a good training character as using him is most beneficial for new players: his low Movement Speed helps players learn to regulate Stamina and his extra Research gain is most beneficial to those that don't have much. The rest of this section should be considered with the fact that he is more aptly-applied with the inexperienced in mind. Rodger's main Stat, which is his Extraction Speed (4), is above average and will help with completing Machines faster. The only downside is his low Movement Speed, which means finding and using Speed Items will help with traversing around the Floor better (although you may wish to save them for emergencies). He is not very efficient as an extractor compared to other Toons with the inclination due to his propensity for seeking research and the hindrance of having difficulty traversing the map. Rodger's Detective Passive grants him double the Research percentages from collecting Research Capsules and encountering Twisteds. Normally, you would gain 1% from Research Capsules and 5% from encountering Twisteds, but with his Passive Ability, it's doubled to 2% and 10%. This makes Rodger useful for collecting Research much faster on a Twisted that isn't fully Researched yet. However, this effectively renders him ability-less (similarly to ). For that reason, if you have no motivation to collect Research (either because you have all of it or don't want it), Rodger probably isn't the best Toon for the job.

Patch history

Before v0.4.1, Rodger had a bug where picking up a Research Capsule as him would not give 2% if you hadn't encountered the Twisted before. You can look through before the glass in Rodger's head to see through Blackouts clearer like how you can with 's plastic lid, as Roblox's rendering works poorly with fog seen through transparent objects. Assuming you enter a chase with a Twisted and collect their two Research Capsules, it takes 8 encounters with a Twisted to get 100% Research on them, or technically 7.2 encounters, though there is no natural way to get a decimal amount of encounters. Rodger's eye and lens are layered on top of some effects (Stats boosts, username, Ichor from Machines, etc.). Rodger's introduction card used to say that he was a spyglass. It was later corrected to say that he is a magnifying glass. Rodger's name is likely either a reference to, the inventor of the magnifying glass, or the saying "Roger that." Rodger's head is a circle, but the low-poly count on the 3D model turns it into an, which has 18 sides. Rodger's interaction with reveals he is considering a monocle to add to his look. Rodger's tense dynamic with most of the Main Characters seems to stem from his interrogation attempts being considered pushy and obnoxious by them, but he gets along with Shelly just fine. However, he still seems to go along with this, making sure to look after her and be someone to look up to.
