Overview

The Flamethrower is an utility weapon obtained by defeating the Rockefeller miniboss at the Oil Refinery. It specializes in crowd controll at close range, which is useful to deal with Zombies because of their large numbers and slow speed. It can be reloaded by dropping it in a puddles of Kerosene, with each puddle restoring 5%.

Pros & Cons

Deals area damage. Large magazine capacity. Can easily light explosives. Limited range. Low damage. Limited ammunition (except in Fire Biome). Difficult to reload in combat.

Strategy

Recommended to be used with the Arsonist for the increased fire damage. Due to its low damage, the Flamethrower is only useful against large numbers of weak enemies. To save ammo, consider only firing to the point of igniting enemies and letting the fire damage do the rest. Make sure to take the 4 Keronese Bottles in the Oil Refinery. This provides up to 8 additional magazines worth of ammo and containers to restock on ammo during Kerosene Rain. Can be used liberally during Keronese Rain or in Scorched Earth mode thanks to the vast amounts of ammo. Note that the weapon is less effective against burning enemies. The Flamethrower is the most efficient way of lighting explosives, being able to light multiple at once with just one tap.

Trivia

The Flamethrower is the first weapon to not use the CurrentAmmo/ReserveAmmo format. It is also the first weapon to reload through the liquid system. Despite Flaming Zombies being immune to fire damage, the Flamethrower can still deal damage to them because it deals both direct and fire damage.
