Structures and buildings won't help at this disaster, as they will fall after getting hit. It's a big case when its huge and high structures. The less buildings and structures, the better sight of the snow.
Although, if its structures with lots of parts but at low ground, this will probably protect from getting hit by the snow. Try to stay behind those buildings as possible. Safety Second is an example.
Going up on the mountain and staying behind the avalanche is an excellent way to survive as less snow goes to the back of the mountain.
