Description

The Riot Guard is a unit spawned by the Mercenary Base at Level 4 or higher. The Riot Guard receives a single upgrade when the Mercenary Base is upgraded to Level 6. It spawns next to the Mercenary Base and moves towards the entrance, whereupon it disappears. It can also be spawned in via the Mercenary Base's Air-Drop ability. It has a very high amount of health for a unit and is also quite fast when charging. Whenever there is an enemy in its range, it will stop moving to attack it. It will continue walking if there are no detectable enemies in its range for a few seconds. While walking, it will build up speed, eventually running and entering a charge state. While charging, any enemy it collides with will be dealt minor damage, and will be knocked back. Bigger enemies will be pushed back less than average-sized enemies. This does not cause the Riot Guard to lose health. The Riot Guard can hit multiple enemies with its attack, however, it will rarely reach the maximum number of enemies it can hit, as its attack area is quite low. The Riot Guard has defense that reduces incoming damage from enemies. While it has no limit in regular gameplay, there is a limit of 4 Riot Guards per Mercenary Base in PVP.

Appearance

The Riot Guard has tan skin and grey hair. It wears a grey shirt, brown pants, shoes, knee-pads and vest, black belt and a grey helmet. It carries a grey shield.

Strategy

Due to its high health, the Riot Guard can be quite effective at killing hordes of weak enemies, such as Glitches and Fallens. It can also be useful at dealing damage to singular, high health enemies, like the Warden or Necromancer King. As collision damage deals full damage to enemies with defense, it can be quite useful against enemies like the Fallen Giant or Bulwark. Additionally, the Riot Guard has defense itself, meaning the damage these enemies receive will be even higher than the Riot Guard's health. When walking, the Riot Guard will speed up and eventually start running, allowing it to knock back and do a small amount of damage to enemies upon collision. This is the same amount of damage as the Riot Guard does with its regular melee attack. Because of this, it is recommended to place down Mercenary Bases and use Air-Drop near the back, as this will give Riot Guards time to start running. The Air-Drop ability can be used to send out multiple Riot Guards at once, allowing it to deal high amounts of damage through collision.

Trivia

The Riot Guard is the first unit to have defense. The Riot Guard is the first unit that can apply an effect on an enemy. It was the first unit added that could stun enemies, though this was later modified to knockback, being first in this regard too.
