Appearance
Dr. Harlow is a semi-dark orange muntjac deer. Wrapped around his neck is a black stethoscope. Underneath his coat is a blue medical scrub with a red tie. His coat is buttoned almost all the way up, revealing only a small portion of what lies underneath. On his head rests a head mirror with a brown band. In his right hand, he carries a black suitcase with the words "TOP SECRET" in red letters on it, similar to Ron from Accounting's suitcase. His face features slit eyes with black, shiny, irises, and his mouth is covered by a blue surgical face mask. On top of his head are two large, grey antlers. His forehead has dark orange patterns on his face, and his ears are a slightly darker color than his face. His appearance was updated in "Harlow's Favorite Update".
Background
After Shift 1 is concluded, Dr. Harlow appears for the first time at the reception window. He gives the player(s) helpful advice before unlocking the shutters and cameras. In Shift 2, he opens new facilities, such as the Supplies Shop and the Emergency Wing (Rooms 6 to 8). In Shift 3, he unlocks the Taser. In Shift 4, Dr. Harlow appears at the hospital again, this time talking about an Anomaly attack. He warns the player(s) of an ambulance coming, and runs away instead of helping. After Shift 4 ends, he congratulates the player and gives them a bonus for their hard work. He comes back in Shift 6, warning the player that if the hospital loses three patients, it's over. He also reminds them that their sanity is important and that they shouldn't "die on him". Dr. Harlow stops actively talking to player(s) after Shift 7, but he remains in the hospital lobby. The player(s) must walk up to him and interact with him in order to talk to him further and see more dialogues. In these, he reveals that there were many hospital managers before the player(s), and that the Animal Corporation had "saved" him—or at least what was left of him—which is why he now works for them. He also states that if their research is successful, there will be no more patients, endless shifts, or any trouble whatsoever. It is shown in one of his lobby dialogues that Mint Tea is his favorite drink, and if it is offered by a Player, he will accept it once his initial dialogue has ended.
Personality
Little is known about Dr. Harlow's personality. As revealed in his hospital lobby dialogue, he has worked with the Animal Hospital for a long time and has seen many hires come and go. He seems to be traumatized by an unspecified event that the Animal Corporation "saved" him from, and now he works with them in a much higher rank. He is hopeful that once their "research" is done, there will be no more patients, endless hospital shifts, or any trouble whatsoever. Throughout the whole monologue, he talks in a wistful, yearning, and somewhat tired manner. The only things Dr. Harlow can be seen doing are sitting in the lobby while watching the player(s) do all the work, speaking with an Animal Corporation employee in a hazmat suit outside the hospital, going to the staff room, or coming to the reception office after the shift has ended. Dr. Harlow is presumably a bit of a coward. During the first emergency, he doesn't do anything to help the player(s) take care of the large amount of incoming patients—instead, he immediately runs into the staff room.
Patch history
Sometimes, at the beginning of each shift, when the shop is open, Dr. Harlow will walk up to the shop and stay there for a moment before going back to the hospital lobby. At some point in the game, Dr. Harlow exits the hospital, where one of the Animal Corporation's employees wearing a hazmat suit can be seen waiting for him outside. They have a brief conversation (with the unknown employee only speaking in whispers) before Dr. Harlow walks back in the hospital, carrying one of Animal Corp's boxes with the word "confidential" written at the top. This can be seen happening multiple times, and there are currently four known interactions between them that can be found here. He has an update named after him; Harlow's Favorite Update. This update was released on July 10th, 2026. The colors on his original redesign were russet-brown, with the pattern being an almost black-brown color. Dr. Harlow received a redesign in the Harlow's Favorite Update, presumably due to his close resemblance to both the surgeon and doctor classes' pre-update designs. His new design is meant to resemble a muntjac deer. Muntjac deer have very prominent, long fangs, which may explain why he always wears a face mask. Muntjac deer are also considered invasive outside of their natural South and Southeast Asian habitat.
