The Scanner can be obtained by purchasing it in the Supplies shop for $150 or by equipping the Secret Agent Class. Despite being the same item, they work differently based on how they are obtained. If bought from the Supplies Shop, the item will only have one use. If obtained by equipping the Secret Agent class, however, it can be repeatedly used once every 2 minutes (120 Seconds). Using the item will send out a beam of light and show a color corresponding to what it detects. Scanning the following NPCs will show different results below: If the player scans a Patient, it will display a green light beam and a green screen. If the player scans an Anomaly, it will display a red light beam and a red screen. If the player scans the Hiders, it will display a red light beam and a red screen. If the player scans the Stalker, it will display a purple/pink-ish light beam and a "???" symbol on the screen. As of now, its not yet known if other Monsters (such as Bed Monster, Camera Figures, Tendrils, and Mass of eyes.) are possible to be scanned using The Scanner to show their color result. (Theorized to be red, similar to The Hiders) If the player scans the Ghost, The Ghost will disappear instead. If nothing is scanned, the scanner will only display a yellow light beam.

Trivia

Scanning Barney will turn the scanner green, even though it is revealed he is an Anomaly later in the game. This may or may not be an unintentional bug. A similar result also happens to the Dr. Harlow. A similar result also happens to the Head Banger. The scanner shares the same model as the "Bloxxy Radar" gear, with a few minor changes. For some reason, the two buttons on the top left side of The Scanner, also lights up color similar to the screen result, though there's no clear reason or purpose behind this design.
