Overview[1]

The AKM is a powerful assault rifle known to tear through armor with its heavy-hitting capabilities. It was initially released to the public on September 12, 2021, as part of the V1.3.0 Revamp Update in the game, it was later removed from regular Dealers in the V1.3.5 Update. The weapon was eventually re-added to the game in the V1.4.0 Update, but only obtainable from golden scrap piles down in Vibe Check. With a few updates and tweaks, now it may only be obtained from Airdrops, Mystery Crates or purchase from a Rebel Dealer. With the release of V1.6.0, the AKM's obtainability has further evolved in exclusivity, making it a more rare and valuable find. However, as of V2.1.4, the AKM can now be bought at Rebel Dealers with one in stock. Players seeking to acquire the AKM should exercise caution, no matter how powerful the gun can be. The AKM stands out from other firearms due to its superior damage and armor penetration capabilities. Its heavy firepower makes it a force to be reckoned with in most combat situations, close range to medium range at best, but due to the exclusivity of its acquisition that means losing the gun is far more than a simple loss.

Usage & Tactics

Essentially, the AKM acts as a direct upgrade to the AKS-74U, being able to be used similarly with the optimal range being close enough to land a good amount shots and getting use to how much more recoil it has in comparison with all other rifles in the category. The difference between the AKM and AKS is the several attachments and much higher recoil, however the damage can make up for this with well placed accuracy even on both armored and unarmored foes. Being able to dish out an unarmored player in just 3 shots placed at the head, it can show the best of it's capabilities. With the extra attachments it allows the rifle to improve performance in small aspects, making it easier taking out any target in very close and medium ranges. When firing in the full-auto mode while aiming down the optic, the user will need some experience in recoil control to stay on their feet, as well as having their bullets stay on the target, because of this high recoil it makes staying on target difficult for newer players and those who aren't familiar with recoil control when obtaining the weapon for the first time. For improved hipfire accuracy, keeping the laser on helps, giving it an edge in a more accurate firing experience, however the laser can reveal your position to other players if not careful. Using the semi-auto mode is often more well suited for combat in longer ranges, as it has great recoil recovery while tapping players from a distance.

Attachments

The AKM is fitted with a custom Kobra red dot holographic sight, which can improve aim by increasing precision when compared to more crude iron sights on the AKS-74U. It also has an red laser fitted to the side which can be activated by pressing X. The laser can be seen by the wielder and outside users. This laser effectively gives the gun no spread while activated and can blind players.

Pros & Cons

High damage. Good firerate. Very high armor penetration. High ammo capacity and reserve. Equipped with several useful attachments. Significant target for the server. Only obtainable through irregular means (Rebel dealers, Airdrops, Mystery crate) Takes 6.5 Inventory slots. Long reload time. Low Mobility. High Recoil Expensive

Patch history

In V1.3.1 the AKM was silently nerfed, having its magazine size reduced from 35 to 30. The laser was also changed in this update to no longer obscure a player's vision if looking directly at it. Ever since the V2 update, the obscuring effect returned to the AKM. The AKM was previously an exclusive weapon only for the URM until the V1.3 update. It's name and appearance is based off its real life counterpart, the AKM. With the addition of a polymer stock and handguard, the AKM more likely resembles the AK-103, a modernized variant of the AK47/AKM. This is the very second gun in the game (to be released to the public) to actually have custom modifications attached on, first being the FNP-45. When V1.4 released, it was added back secretly, only found in Golden Scrap Piles which spawned in Vibe Check. There is an upgraded AKM currently in game only obtainable with admin commands, it comes with what appears to be a green Reflex Sight, suppressor, and green laser, it is unknown if this will ever come to the public. It functions exactly like an automatic SKS. Solely upon the release of the Rebel Dealer, the level requirement was increased from 45 to 65 even in shops that aren’t the Rebel Dealer.
