Summary
The Wrench is a compact yet formidable melee weapon that was introduced to Criminality on October 17th, 2020, as part of the v1.0.0 pre-beta release. Currently, the Wrench can be purchased exclusively from dealers, making it readily available to players. Unlike some items that require unlocking through leveling up or meeting certain requirements, the Wrench is automatically unlocked and accessible to players from the start, specifically at level 1.
Usage & Tactics
The Wrench, while not necessarily the absolute best starter weapon, can still be utilized effectively and prove to be a valuable tool in the game. One of the notable advantages of the Wrench is its fast attack speed, which allows players to initiate the first strike before their opponents have a chance to retaliate. The downward swing of the Wrench makes it difficult for opponents to counter by ducking or crouching, as these defensive strategies are less effective against this type of attack. This further enhances the Wrench's offensive capabilities and increases the likelihood of landing successful hits. Additionally, the Wrench possesses concussive abilities on headshots. When players manage to land headshots with the Wrench, it can deliver a concussive effect, stunning opponents and disrupting their ability to fight back effectively. This concussive capability makes the Wrench an effective weapon when used properly. Even if players cannot consistently land headshots, the Wrench still deals significant damage per hit, making it capable of downing opponents in just a few strikes. This high damage output allows players to quickly eliminate opponents and potentially turn the tide of a battle. Furthermore, the concussive ability of the Wrench also provides a protective advantage. When players successfully strike their opponents with concussive headshots, it temporarily hinders the opponent's ability to retaliate and may even force them to re-equip their weapons. This buys valuable time and creates a window of opportunity for players to gain the upper hand in combat.
Blocking
The wrench cannot block. The wrench can be blocked by, Taiga, Baton, Bat, Katana, Machete, Metal Bat, Scythe, Slayer's Sword II, ERADICATOR
Pros & Cons
Extremely cheap. Good mobility. Ragdolls on headshot. Very low stamina usage. Fast swing speed and short cooldown. Only 1.5 slots. Concealed carry. Found in Scrap Piles. Finicky hitbox. Cannot block. Can be blocked by nearly every weapon.
Patch history
The Wrench had two reskins in the past, these were the Hammer and Coal. On the release of V1.3.0, the Wrench could no longer inflict ragdoll on headshot, only stunning players. The ragdoll mechanic has since been re-enabled in V1.4.0 The Wrench cannot inflict ragdoll to players wearing helmets, however it will still stun them. After the buff it received in V1.2.0, the wrench has seemingly never shifted out of the meta. Damage 14 → 23, $55 → $50, Cooldown 0.75s → 0.6s Commonly memed on in the community, the wrench is often referred to as the best melee for its downright stupid damage and ragdoll stun ability. The Wrench is famous in the community for ragdolling RVVZ off of tower and indirectly killing him via barbed wire while using an RCU kit. It is theorized that the removal of the ragdoll on headshot was disabled in V1.3 because of this. Similarly, the barbed wire was changed to no longer instantly kill players in this update (excluding buildings around Tower).
