Behavior

A mammoth will wander aimlessly until a player deals damage. If a mammoth has entered its passive state far enough away from their original spawn point, they will teleport back, creating a puff of smoke. If killed, a mammoth may respawn after a Day. Mammoths don’t attack the player when they go near it, only when the player attacks the mammoth. It will chase the player until either the player dies or escapes its detection radius. When the player gets close enough while being chased by the mammoth, it will attack, which has the unique property of inflicting knockback. Sometimes, they may also run away a short distance away from the player after attacking. If a player attacks a mammoth, if their pet wolf/wolves are close enough to the mammoth, they will attempt to attack it but will deal no damage, as it's hit box is too far to attack. If a player has a Strong Taming Flute or above, they can click on a mammoth to start the taming minigame. While the minigame plays, the mammoth will be docile. Once it has been completed, the mammoth will ask for 2 Pumpkins and Cake. The process must be repeated 5 times. Total amount required is 10 Pumpkins and 5 Cakes.

Drops

Upon death, a Mammoth may drop the following items

Tips

Despite its high stats, it is still possible to kill them by walking in circles with a Melee Weapon. Due to its large size, players can easily hide from or trap the Mammoth. You can kill the Mammoth with a Melee weapon if you manage to get it stuck by the entrance of the stairs inside the Ice Temple

Patch history

The Mammoth appears in the Snow Biome Update Trailer in a herd. The Mammoth has another variant of itself called the "Hellephant", that can be found in the Volcanic Biome. The Mammoth is one of the animals that can only spawn in the Snow Biome, alongside The Polar Bear & The Arctic Fox The Mammoth and the Ram are the only entity that can knock players away. Hellephants also have this ability, however they aren't considered as they are simply a reskin/different variant of the Mammoth. The Mammoth is used to get the limited Wilderness Hunting badge. The Mammoth is the only animal in the game to be extinct in real life. In the Snowy Biome, Mammoths can be found frozen in ice. Unlike other frozen entities, they cannot be freed. The Mammoth has the highest health among all Entities, aside from unkillable entities such as the Deer, Owl, Ram and the Kiwi. Besides the Polar Bear, the Mammoth is considered to be one of the strongest entities in the game, due to their immense health, high damage and overall tankiness.
