Creatures99 Nights in the Forest

Overview[1]

The Pelt Trader is an NPC in 99 Nights in the Forest that lets players trade animal pelts for Items, such as Axes, Armor, Ammunition, Sacks, Guns, and Flashlights.

The Pelt Trader will first appear on Day 2. He will start his quest line with an initial offer, exchanging a Bunny Foot for three options of upgrades. Each time the player gives him a desired item, he will ask for another item, each being more difficult to obtain. He will ask for 4 pelts in total (Bunny Foot, Wolf Pelt, Alpha Wolf Pelt and the Bear Pelt) — or 5 with the Hunter class level 3 — before he has no more trades. He will leave the camp at nighttime. The Pelt Trader will arrive every 3-4 days, not influenced by multipliers. Depending on what items the player already owns, the Pelt Trader may or may not give a different item in its place; an example of this is that, if the player does not have an Old Flashlight, the pelt trader will replace the Giant Sack for one, on the third trade.

Appearance

The Pelt Trader wears a brown fur hat and oval blue sunglasses. His outfit includes black pants, a brown leather shirt, a shoulder pad on one side, and a ripped sleeve on the other. He wears a brown fur cloak with a white fur collar. He has blonde hair, which is slightly visible under his hat.

Bugs

After giving the Pelt Trader an Alpha Wolf Pelt, he may not additionally ask for a Bear Pelt. If the Pelt Trader leaves while a player is in the reward menu, the menu will close without allowing the player to select an item, and the quest will still progress. This may also happen if the player goes too far from the Pelt Trader. If the player is in the reward menu, and a second player gives something the menu of the first player will sometimes close. If certain items are collected (such as the Ice Axe) the trader might not offer the same things and will offer lower value items.

Patch history

If a player trades in a Bear Pelt, the Pelt Trader will not ask for any more items. This might change in the future. The Pelt Trader is client-sided for each player, meaning every player has their own set of trade offers. So you don't need to worry about another player taking a trade before you, or vice versa. If you already have all the items usually given after trading a Bunny Foot, the Pelt Trader will give Revolver Ammo instead, but no Revolver. If you have the Poison Spear or Morningstar and you trade with the Pelt Trader for a Spear, it will keep the Poison Spear, since it does poison damage, making it better. The Pelt Trader used to give a Revolver (Old Flashlight if you did not have one) on the Wolf Pelt trade but after the taming update it got swapped for an old taming flute This has been changed in the 2x diamonds weekend The Pelt Trader used to give a Taming Flute or Old Rod for a Wolf Pelt trade, but this was changed after the Tool Trader was added. You can now buy either from the Tool Trader for 20 coins. The Wolf Pelt trade is the only one where you currently get offered 4 items. If you choose a ranged weapon you already have, you will get a duplicate of that weapon in your inventory instead of getting nothing. When the nightcrawler class was released, If you have the shadow dagger equipped and you purchase the spear, the spear will replace the shadow dagger, since shadow dagger is worse than spear.
