Liquids

ItemsDead Rails

Overview[1]

Liquids are a game mechanic in Dead Rails, introduced in version 0.14.0. They can be stored in a Glass Bottle or dropped onto a surface as a puddle. Standing in a puddle covers you at 2% per second, and coverage decays at 1% per second once you step out.

Liquids can be stored in a Glass Bottle, or dropped onto surfaces in the form of circular puddles. Some of them can also fall from the sky in the form of Rain. There are several types of Liquids with different effects and obtainment methods, with some of them being potions or ingredients to create one. When used correctly, they can be very beneficial. Players or entities that stand in puddles will be covered by the liquid at a rate of 2% per second per puddle (this effect stacks with multiple puddles). Being outside when it's raining will result in being covered significantly faster. Liquid coverage will decay at a rate of 1% per second. Touching a liquid while already covered in another will result in the existing liquid decaying at a faster rate instead of getting covered in the new liquid. If multiple liquids are stored in the same Glass Bottle, they will always be poured out in this order: Holy Water, Primordial Soup, Kerosene, Water, Fire, Milk, Blood, Acid, Zombie Blood, Unicorn Blood, Cerebrus Blood, Devil Tears, and finally Angel Tears.

Patch history

Before the Zombie and Items Rework Update, Glass Bottles used to pour liquids significantly faster. This was likely changed to make duplication glitches much harder to pull off. Before the 21/6/2025 update, players were unable to carry Bottles in the Inventory. This function was primarily added to allow players to use them as weapons, though they underperform in that purpose compared to Molotovs and Holy Water. At the start of the 16/5/2025 update only one single drop of liquid (2.5%) was enough to cover a player entirely (100%) with perfect alignment. This was due to a bug where the puddle infinitely shrank into a single point rather than disappearing completely. Devil Tears has a unique liquid texture similar to marble. Angel Tears can also heal enemies or corpses. Unicorn Blood, Angel Tears, Holy Water, Fire, and Acid visually glow in the dark. However, only Angel Tears and Acid dropped from Acid Skeletons will actually emit light. Acid used to deal significantly more damage. It was likely reduced to limit the frustration caused by Acid Rain. Cerebrus Blood may be a misspelling of Cerberus Blood. Category:Gameplay Category:Mechanics Category:Items Category:Revival
