Strategies

White Horses and Unicorns can be hard to distinguish, especially at night. Unicorns are distinguished by their horn, purple accents (instead of black), and walking animations (does not work with Outlaws outside their detection range). If a player desperately wants a Unicorn, they can backtrack and search groups of Horses/Outlaws that spawn. Although it can be done anywhere, this strategy is much more reliable if a Unicorn Biome is present since it is almost guaranteed to find a Unicorn after walking back and forth for a while. The easiest way to obtain Unicorns is to simply kill the Outlaws riding one in the Unicorn Biome. This has the additional benefit of not requiring a Saddle, which may be slightly difficult to find. Aim slightly to the right side of the head, to avoid hitting the Unicorn or having their gun block your shots. Be wary when fighting Outlaws riding Unicorns, as they can close the distance extremely quickly if you don't shoot them down in time. This can force you to kill the Unicorn to avoid being killed by the Outlaw's massive close range damage. If you lure them to the Train, the Outlaws will get stuck, making them easier shots. Note that they can still shoot you at certain angles. If attempting to tame a Unicorn in the wild, try to circle around outside its detection range and only then start chasing it towards your intended direction. You can use buildings, the Train, or mountains can be used to get them stuck, but be aware that they can sometimes climb up invisible surfaces located on mountains.

Patch history

Even if a Unicorn has died, players can still sit on it to get the Badge and finish the challenge. Most classes can outrun Unicorns under the effects of 3 Snake Oils. Unicorn is the only horse variant that have walking animation. However, regular Horses also used to have walking animation, but then it was removed after the 11/4/2025 update. The Unicorn, Horse, Soldier, and the tamed Wolf are currently the only passive entities in the game, along with revived enemies. In any given game, players have a small chance of encountering more than one Unicorn. A living Unicorn ranks among the most valuable items in the game, tying with the Brain In Jar, Strange Mask, and Jade Sword and only being surpassed by Nikola Tesla. In the now removed Fool's Gold gamemode, a Unicorn could spawn in the locked house in Outlaw's Town. If players managed to complete the Horsing Around gamemode on the day it was introduced (April 1st), they were rewarded with a Unicorn skin for the Horse class. In the Easter update, Unicorns will spawn in abundance at Unicorn Island. these Unicorns cannot be interacted with in any way. On update 5/2/2025, the unicorn's speed was been increased to 45 instead of 30 like the regular Horse. Although unicorns have the fastest movement speed (45), players using the unicorn version of the Horse class will see their speed reduced by 44.44% (25). There used to be a glitch where reviving Unicorns would cause the corpse to stay and a new live Unicorn to appear, allowing players to duplicate them and earn large amounts of money.
