Jade Sword

WeaponsDead Rails

Overview[1]

45 (charged); 37.5-56.25 (DPS); 0.6s to fully charge; 5 Metal; 1 Component The Jade Sword is a unique melee Weapon in Dead Rails.

The Jade Sword is a melee weapon found exclusively in a secret area in the Sterling Mines, with only one spawning per run. It resembles a 1-sided curved blade made out of Jade, along with the guard and pommel made out of gold with a wooden handle. The Jade Sword has identical stats to most melee weapons in the game. Upon killing Entities with the Jade Sword, there will be a 50% chance they'll be reanimated. This can stack with the Necromancer's 25% chance of reviving. When an Enemy is reanimated, they respawn as your ally, attacking Enemies while taking their attention. This reanimation functions similar to the Strange Mask or Necromancer's pawns. Due to the game's reanimation mechanics that technically spawns a new entitiy rather than simply restoring the dead entity back to life, revived entities have a chance to switch to a different variant. For Zombies, there is a 15% to reanimate as a variant (Dynamite Zombie, Ironclad or Sheriff Zombie, each has a 5% chance to replace Normal Zombies). Entities revived by the Jade Sword will not be revivable after death, similar to the Strange Mask. Upon reanimating an Enemy, the player will lose about 15 health.

Obtainment

The first step to unlocking the Jade Sword is reaching Sterling. The Jade Sword is locked inside a secret compartment within the Mines, and to open the stone door, the player needs 4 Jade Tablets, one of which is already present in the room. The first Jade Tablet can be found behind the altar in the Church of Sterling. The second Jade Tablet can be found behind an overturned minecart to the left of the entrance, inside a dead end. Lastly, the third Jade Tablet needed can be found in the same chamber as the Strange Mask. Once the player has the 3 Jade Tablets, they then need to find the secret room behind a stack of 3 Barrels. When coming from the entrance, the player must first take a right. Keep going and take the next left. After this, the player should see a smaller tunnel on their right. In this tunnel should be the stack of Barrels. The player must then remove the Barrels and place all 4 Jade Tablets on the circular red platform. If the player does this, the stone door should begin to lower, revealing several Bonds, Gold & Silver Bars, and the Jade Sword.

Strategies

The Jade Sword can be sold for $250, if you prefer to trade it in the Trading Post for profit. You cannot drag reanimated allies, unlike tamed Horses and Wolves. Keep this in mind as you will not be able to take your allies with you. Though a clever way of taking them is by using a tamed Horse previously ridden by an Outlaw to be used as bait to move them around since they tend to attack these Horses but must ensure that the Horse does not get killed. However, you can still push around reanimated enemies by running into them, abeit slowly. Reanimated allies will draw the attention of Enemies, too. Make use of this to pick off Enemies attacking your ally while staying out of the line of fire. The Survivalist may find the most benefits towards this Weapon, as the damage boost can allow you to make the army at a much faster rate. The Jade Sword pairs well with the Necromancer, as the revival percentage of the sword stacks with the Necromancer's, getting a 75% chance to revive Enemies.

Patch history

The Jade Sword is one of four melee Weapons in the game to have special effects, with the others being the Vampire Knife and Excalibur, and Spear of Longinus. The Jade Sword is the most valuable melee Weapon in the game, selling for $250. The Jade Sword ranks among the most Valuable items in the game, tying with the Brain In Jar, alive Unicorn and Strange Mask, only being surpassed by Nikola Tesla. In Mesoamerican culture, Jade is often associated with life and the supernatural. This could be the reason for the Jade Sword's ability to revive the dead. The Jade Sword used to damage Enemies by 30. It has been reduced to 25. If a player revives a Zombie, it will change into any of the following variants; Sheriff Zombie, Ironclad Zombie; any of the three normal: Normal Zombie, Runner Zombie and Dynamite Zombie. If a Horse is revived, it will change into any of the 6 color variants, and remove its Saddle if it had one. If a player is using the Necromancer class, then the chances of reviving an enemy is changed to 75% chance (keep in mind the player still takes 10 damage). The Jade Sword can fall through the floor, making it impossible to get. It seems that the Jade Sword used on Vampires and Werewolves has a significantly lower chance of being friendly NPCs than Zombies (?). At the moment, the probability of them becoming allies is still unknown. Losing health per entity reanimated might be a bug, though it could also be a feature added by the developer.
