Overview[1]
5s (ranged)? 300+ (ranged); Tesla Lab (body) Nikola Tesla is a major boss Entity in Dead Rails.
Nikola Tesla is a boss that spawns at the end of the game shortly after the bridge crank has been pulled. He can also be seen after assembling his body and pulling the lever in the Tesla Lab. After assembly, Tesla possesses the muscular body of a Werewolf, albeit much larger than the standard enemy and with the Brain in Jar in place of a head. Nikola Tesla has exceptionally high HP, second only to the Easter Bunny, a boss exclusive to the Eggstravaganza event. He possesses above average walkspeed, as well as two different attacks which are both strong enough to kill unarmored players with normal health in 1 hit (except for those with a class that gives a boost to max HP). When performing his ranged attack, he momentarily becomes stationary while picking up and throwing a rock. The rock will summon lightning when it hits a surface, and will ragdoll players if they are directly hit. If players are able to quickly reach the 70,000 meters Fortified Town before the bridge is fully lowered, they're able to sell Nikola Tesla for $300 and complete the Electric Remains Challenge.

How to Spawn
Upon entering the Tesla Lab, the player has to find 5 Werewolf Limbs: a left and right Werewolf Arm, a Werewolf Torso, a left and right Werewolf Leg, and his brain on a desk in the room to the right of the entrance, next to some books. After that, the player has to place all pieces on the central table, then going to the room where his brain is located and pulling the lever to start the revival. This will spawn 35 Scientist Zombies over time, with lightning and dark clouds in the background. After the fight, footprints will appear in front of the table, leading to the exit, indicating that Nikola Tesla has spawned and will appear at Outlaw Town. The Electrocutioner and a few Bonds (3-7) will also spawn around the table. Nikola Tesla could also be randomly spawned in the Fool's Gold (Gamemode). Through selling Fool's Gold in the Trading Post during the in-game April Fools 2025 event, there was a small chance of him spawning.
Strategies
It's recommended to approach the Tesla Lab during the early daytime (5:00 - 8:00 AM). This is so that the player can fight the Scientist Zombies without the threat of extra enemies alongside better visibility. Once the lever is pulled, a light source is beneficial due to the darkness of the thunderstorm. It's recommended to bring a few healing sources and ranged Weapons to efficiently eliminate the Scientist Zombies. The player can easily kill all the scientist zombies by going to the train after pulling the lever as they can't damage players inside the train. However, it is harder to do without a Horse/horse class, vampire class, or werewolf class Additionally, if using the Vampire Class, the Vampire Knife can wipe out the Scientist Zombies easily. Despite the sky becoming cloudy, players using the Vampire Class will still take damage as if it were Day. For a quicker run, selling Nikola Tesla's head, the Brain In Jar, is more efficient rather than spawning the boss. It will give the player who sold it $250 which is enough money to buy a reliable weapon as well as many other items. However, because the player gets an Electrocutioner from it, it may be more money efficient to get it then raid towns to get back the money lost. Luring Nikola Tesla onto the rail and running him over with the train can do a lot of damage, but he can survive with a small amount of health. Nikola Tesla can throw tesla coils through thin walls, so camping inside the cab is not an option.
Lore
See More in: Lore On August 6th, 1895, Nikola Tesla receives a telegraph from Washington D.C. By the Government stating that his lab will be receiving funds to develop a biological-weapon for the military within a year, with the goal being to mimic the effects of yellow fever. He was authorized to use death row inmates at Stillwater Prison as test subjects. It is most likely that the experiments were done on the Covenant, as they’re the only ones who look like prisoners. The Bioweapon was likely to create Mutations, Strange Symptoms, Pale Green Skin, and Unexplained Mental Effects. It is Unknown why the U.S Military wanted a Bioweapon, though its likely they need it for to kill Outlaws and Other Foreign Threats. After 5 months of progression, Nikola Tesla and his Scientist manages to complete his prototype ahead of schedule, with the U.S Military sending him another telegraph on January 2nd, 1896, thanking him for his swiftness of Development and giving him funds. Then the U.S Military requested 100 metal barrels of his latest prototype, Labeled Agent-15. Things eventually go horribly wrong as Nikola Tesla and his workers are exposed to the bioweapon, likely the Barrels leaked inside the lab, with the latter eventually becoming zombies. Tesla had his brain removed and put in a jar to survive the infection. Before his brain removal, Tesla leaves the instructions in his office to have his brain taken to the "Top Scientists" to have him rebuilt. By now, the Tesla Lab was abandoned, leaving Tesla sitting on a table inside the jar with nothing to do but look around.
Patch history
Nikola Tesla was named after famous Serbian-American engineer and futurist Nikola Tesla, who was born in the Austrian Empire (Croatia in the present day). According to the Lore, Nikola Tesla is at least partially responsible for creating the zombie outbreak in Dead Rails. This caused his rival, Thomas Edison, to declare war against him (likely as an excuse). It is unknown why Nikola Tesla tries to kill the player if he is rebuilt. One theory suggests that the werewolf body gave him aggressive tendencies that were difficult to control. Another less likely possibility is that he wanted revenge for the player giving him an undesirable body. Nikola Tesla is the first boss to be added to the game. During the battle, Tesla attacks by launching Tesla Coils and hitting the player. The animation seen during the battle when throwing the Tesla is from The Tank in Left 4 Dead He can damage himself with his own Tesla Coil attacks, similar to the Famine Horse. Nikola Tesla deals the highest damage out of any enemy in the game (Excluding the Easter Bunny), which is enough to instantly kill any player without armor. Nikola Tesla's corpse will grant 2000/2400 fuel which is the highest amount in the game. To complete the Electric Remains challenge, the player must sell Tesla's corpse at the nearest (70km) Fortified Town. Nikola Tesla sells more than any other valuable, junk, or bounty, going for a total of $300. The reason for this might be that when Nikola Tesla (in real life) died, he had a net worth of $300,000,000 in the modern day in USD ($12,000,000 at the time he died).
