Famine Horse

Animal, Exclusive EntityEntitiesDead Rails

Overview[1]

The Famine Horse, or Famine, is one of the 4 Horses of the Apocalypse in Dead Rails. It is the 3rd Apocalypse Horse to spawn in The Wild, alongside with War, Death and Pestilence.

The Famine Horse is an gray Horse that periodically emits electric particles. It spawns between the 50km and 60km mark and will be ridden by a Covenant Knight, with 5 Werewolves being found nearby. It is unobtainable through normal means in modes with a shorter map length due to its spawn location being outside the map. When ridden by a player, the Famine Horse spawns Lantern if an enemy or a Soldier is nearby, with the amount of Lightning Bolts scaling based on the number of entities nearby. The lightning strikes can be relatively inaccurate and there is a 5 second cooldown period between each one. Despite its ability, it is not immune to lightning and can potentially kill itself with its own attacks.

Straregy

To prevent Famine from killing itself, it is recommended to revive it with Primordial Soup before riding it near enemies. Be careful with ranged enemies and when riding too close to melee enemies since the revive comes at the cost of making the horse targetable by enemies. When using Famine as a weapon, it is recommended to make use of a Lightning Rod to make up for the terrible accuracy. Lure enemies near the rod as you are riding the horse. With good timing and positioning, this strategy can make short work of even Endless Mode Werewolves. Note that this is very risky to pull off unless the Werewolves are stuck. Since Soldiers are immune to Famine's lightning and will continuously trigger the ability until they move out of range, they are a great way to summon lightning on demand when combined with a Lightning Rod. The horse may spawn very far away from the track. A good way of finding it is looking out for the group of Werewolves that spawn with it.

Trivia

Unlike regular leather Saddles, the saddles of the Apocalypse Horses are completely gold and will always be attached to them by default. The golden saddles currently do not exist outside of being attached to the Apocalypse Horses, and therefore cannot be used on anything besides them. It is unknown if they have additional affects besides being visually distinct.
