Overview[1]
Barn; Cowboy; Fort Constitution (Serves as mounts for Zombie Soldiers); Merchant's Wagon Horses are passive Entities in Dead Rails.
Horses can be found scattered throughout the map, spawning in groups of 1-6. They can also spawn being ridden by Outlaws. Additionally, 10 Horses will spawn being ridden by Zombie Soldiers at Fort Constitution. At least 1 of them will spawn inside Barns. Horses can be one of 5 colors, which are dark brown, cream brown, white, gray, and black. Additionally, each one has a 1% chance to spawn as a Unicorn instead. Wild horses are skittish and will flee from any players that approach them, though they can be tamed when touching a Saddle, consuming it and allowing players to ride them. Players can also kill enemies that spawned riding Horses to obtain one without having to tame a wild one. Tamed horses are incredibly valuable as they can be used to get around much faster and outrun any Enemy in the game. They can also pull Horse Carts, allowing for somewhat decent storage while away from the Train. Tamed Horses (aside from the ones that spawned ridden by enemies) will be targeted by hostile Entities, so keeping them safe is paramount. They cannot naturally regenerate health when damaged, so players must be careful not to get too close to enemies when riding them or leave them unattended near enemies. Players should be careful not to accidentally damage Horses since all Horses spawned naturally are considered "enemies" by the game. This makes them vulnerable to damage from players' Melee Weapons (even while being ridden), as well as Lightning harmless to players such as those redirected by a Lightning Rod or summoned with weapons.

Patch history
2 decorative Horses can be found at Merchant's Wagon. Horses use the Roblox "Plastic" texture. If the graphics setting is 2 or less, it will be a smooth solid texture instead. Players could previously ride untamed Horses before an unknown update. They were very difficult to control due to constantly turning in a direction. The Horse's neck does not have a hitbox, allowing players to shoot it without damaging the Horse. A cream brown Horse can be seen on the boards displaying the gamepass weapons in the Lobby, along with RiccoMiller in a western outfit holding the weapons. Wild Horses (unlike wild wolves) appear to be quite active as they constantly move across the wild regardless of the player's subsequent attempts to approach them. However, Horses already tamed by enemies will stand in place, unless players approach them. Players used to be able to fly using horses, by riding a horse while holding a dead one. Unfortunately, this was patched in the 28/3/25 Update. Another horse flying glitch has been found, nicknamed "The Horse Glitch v5." This was patched by not allowing players to drag items while riding a Horse. In the limited time gamemode Horsing Around, players would spawn in as a Horse (Class). However, their movement speed was slightly lower than that of a regular horse (only being 24 compared to the regular horse's speed of 30). Players can recolor Horses by dealing them fire, lightning, or acid damage. However, this comes with the risk of accidentally killing the Horse. Horses can change color when revived.
