Overview[1]

Captain Prescott; Horse Fort Constitution is an unique Building in Dead Rails.

Fort Constitution is a Point of Interest in Dead Rails. Fort Constitution can be found between 9,000-75,000 meters, and always spawns on the right side of the track. Fort Constitution contains a Supply Depot, 2 Barracks (with Zombie Soldiers), the Captain's Quarter, and an Armory. On the front corners of Fort Constitution also lie two usable cannons. Unfortunately, these Cannons cannot be unwelded. Upon entering Fort Constitution, 24 Zombie Soldiers will start spawning in 3 waves, along withCaptain Prescott. These enemies can spawn in one of 3 buildings (the Armory or one of the Barracks), with each one having 2 spawn spots, one near the entrance and another at the deep end of the building. 90 seconds after entering, 10 Zombie Soldiers on horseback will start spawning in front of Fort Constitution in intervals of 5 seconds. The Armory contains Bolt-Action Rifles (1-3), Shotguns (1), and Navy Revolvers (1-2). Additionally, it also holds 1-2 Revolver Ammo, 0-2 Rifle Ammo, and 4-7 Bandages. Unlike the equippable Weapons, the Cannon can only be achieved by grabbing the Supply Depot Key dropped by Captain Prescott after he's eliminated. After grabbing the Supply Key, players can use it to open the Supply Depot. Upon opening, there will be a Cannon and Cannon Ammo along with 3-7 Bonds.

Strategies

Fort Constution is a guar'anteed way to get tamed Horses and Bolt-Action Rifles, so make sure to raid it if you need any of them. Raid the fort at the beginning of a new day (5:00 AM) to maximize the time players can spend raiding the fort. If the player raids it at night, they will have to deal with additional enemies or Lightning as well. It is highly recommended to bring Snake Oil and Bandages before initiating a raid. Use the Bandages in the armory if you didn't bring any, but be careful not to lose too much health. If you do, it's safer to leave. 24 Zombie Soldiers will spawn from up to three different buildings within the Fort, prioritizing the building closest to players. Monitor all spawn points and eliminate the enemies from afar to avoid being overwhelmed. Note that only the Armory and the Supply Depot contain loot, making it generally pointless to clear the Barracks. Soldiers with firearms are inaccurate, but can become a threat at closer ranges or if they manage to land a lucky shot. Note that Zombie Soldiers can block bullets with their weapons. Some Soldiers may stand still inside the building instead of coming out to fight. If this happens with a Barrack, they can be ignored unless Captain Prescott also spawns there. If this happens with the Armory, shoot them through the windows so they cannot return fire. Players can climb on top of the tower, walk along the side wall, and jump onto a roof to become unreachable by enemies.

Patch history

Fort Constitution doesn't spawn at the same 10km level as the Tesla Lab. For some reason, the cannons in Fort Constitution (on the corner towers) are currently inoperative, displaying a message stating they're out of ammunition. The same applies to the Maxim guns in the Safe Zone. The text on Fort Constitution uses the font Patrick Hand. When looking through a train with glass windows (such as the Presidential Train) the Fort Constitution text is invisible. This likely an oversight. As of the 15/3/2025 patch, Zombie Soldiers are no longer sellable. Using the Strange Mask on a dead Captain Prescott allows players to defeat him again and duplicate the Supply Depot Key. However, there is only one Supply Depot, which makes this feature entirely useless. Some undead soldiers wear M1903 uniforms (1903) with M1910 cartridge belts (1911), despite the game being set in 1899. This is likely an oversight. The Zombie Soldiers found in Fort Constitution are most likely the human Soldiers found in Fortified Towns, but zombified as they share the same uniforms. A common bug in Fort Constitution is that NPCs have low player detection, so they get stuck inside the buildings they spawn in. This is a problem for players because the enemies that get stuck tend to build up in numbers, making it impossible for players to safely melee them. After a while, 10 Zombie Soldiers on horses will appear, which can catch players off guard and make it difficult to deal with them.
