The Shotgun is a close-quarters Weapon that fires a spread of 6 pellets. The Shotgun excels in close range combat due to its shorter spread. However, the Shotgun's beneficiality declines in longer ranges because of its high bullet spread. Being a shotgun type weapon, its shots are unable to penetrate through enemies. The Shotgun can be purchased from the Gunsmith for $50. Additionally, it can be found in Abandoned Buildings, Towns, Outlaw Camps, Fort Constitution, the Castle, and Outlaw's Town.

Strategies
The Shotgun can be used as a secondary Weapon to kill Enemies at close ranges when the player runs out of ammo for their main weapon. The Shotgun is highly effective at killing Enemies in tight spaces like the Castle or the Sterling Mines. The Shotgun can be used as a quick-reload when you're under attack and your main Weapon needs to reload. Shotguns are recommended to deal with Werewolves as their larger hitboxes allow for more pellets to hit their marks. Since the Shotgun is cheaper than the Rifle, it can serve as a good Weapon for clearing Towns until the Rifle can be acquired. The Shotgun can be purchased with the Gold Bar at the start, which can be used to clear the first Town for looting. However, only do this if you have any other method of getting Coal, as you won't have money for it after.
Patch history
The Shotgun appears to have been visually based on the Winchester Model 1897, which gained notoriety in World War I and became known as the "Trench Gun." It's unknown if the Shotgun is the Riot grade version of the Weapon itself as it could not slam fire unlike the counterpart, Trench Gun. But strangely enough, the capacity of the Ammo is 6 as the Riot Gun only had 5 Ammo capacity. Visually the Shotgun seems to be hybrid between the Riot Grade and Trench Grade versions of the Winchester Model 1897, as the in-game models features the bayonet lug and heat shield of the Trench grade, but lacks the ability to slam fire. This makes it out of Dead Rail's time frame as the Trench Grade model was first produced in 1917. The Shotgun currently has no pumping sound effect after shooting, except for when you're reloading. It is unknown why this is the case. Due to the Shotgun firing 6 pellets, it can be assumed that it's loaded in No. 000 Buckshot. The Shotgun fires 6 bullets in a wide cone instead of 1, opposite to the other weapons, along with the low damage of a single pellet, it is not advisable to shoot at long distance because it will do less damage. This is the only updated gun that has no equiping animation. Category:Items Category:Weapons Category:Ranged Weapons Category:Shotguns
