Weapons are items in Dead Rails used for combat against Enemies.
Weapons can be divided into three broad categories: Melee, Ranged, and Utility Weapons. Melee weapons are for fighting enemies up close, and do not use ammo. They can be charged to increase their damage. They will not wake up sleeping zombies (except for ones that are damaged). Ranged weapons are used to take out enemies at varying distances, but require ammo to function. They will wake up sleeping zombies in a large radius. Utility weapons are weapons that come with special uses, mainly AOE. Each one may or may not wake up sleeping zombies. Weapons can be found scattered throughout the map, usually in Abandoned Buildings, Outlaw Camps, or POIs. Most of them can also be bought at either the General Store or the Gunsmith. Ranged Weapons can further be classified into different categories, usually dependent on the type of ammo used. These are Pistols (Revolver, Mauser C96, etc), Rifles (Rifle, Bolt-Action Rifle, etc), Shotguns (Shotgun, Sawed-Off Shotgun, etc), Turrets (Maxim Gun, Ballista, etc) and Special (Crossbow, Electrocutioner, etc). Utility Weapons can further be classified into different categories, usually dependent on how they function. These are Explosives (Dynamite, Landmine, etc), Throwables (Holy Water, Molotov, etc) and Special (Crucifix, Bear Trap, etc).
Trivia
Although the player's perspective is different when holding any gun with 1 or 2 hands or when reloading, in 3rd person view, the player's model will only hold one right hand. It is possible that this is just an oversight. There are currently 40 different weapons in the game. For ranged weapons, only the Rifle, Revolver, Navy Revolver, Shotgun, Crossbow and Blunderbuss are purchaseable. Other ranged weapons can only be found in certain Buildings. Some of them are guaranteed, while others are not. It is unknown why the Blunderbuss and the Crossbow cannot be bought at the Gunsmith and has to be bought at the General Store instead. It is likely due to them now being sold as antiques. Cannon is currently obtainable only at Fort Constitution. Category:Gameplay Category:Mechanics Category:Items
