Bonds are a form of currency in Dead Rails. They are used to purchase Starting Items, Classes, and Trains in the Lobby. Bonds can be found inside most Buildings in item form, though the chances of them appearing outside of Points of Interests are low. They usually spawn in large numbers in Banks (which only spawn in Towns), the Castle, Sterling's Bank and Mines, Fort Constitution, and Tesla Lab (only after its event is completed). They can also be earned from completing games or challenges, as well as when purchased with Robux in the Lobby.

How to Earn Bonds
It is highly recommended to play solo or with players who don't need Bonds to avoid having to share them with other players. The best way to earn Bonds quickly is to collect every Bond inside every point of interest (POI), netting the player about 100-130 Bonds per game. It can be done repeatedly until the player has enough Bonds. If you need tips on how to beat the game or certain structures, check the respective strategy pages. Currently, Bonds can be earned in a large variety of ways. Some methods include: Completing a run on Normal Mode and other unlisted modes will earn the player 10 Bonds for each win. Completing a run on Nightmare Mode will earn the player 20 Bonds for each win. Completing a run on Bite-Sized Mode will earn the player 5 Bonds for each win, with an additional 15 Bonds if it's the first time, which nets the player the Complete Bite-Sized Mode challenge, another additional 15 Bonds if it's the first time finished under 20 minutes, which nets the player the Fast Track challenge. Completing a run on Scorched Earth Mode will earn the player 10 Bonds for each win, with an additional 30 Bonds if it's the first time, which nets the player the Scorched Earth challenge. Completing a run on any modes for the first time will earn the player 5 Bonds, which nets the player the Escape challenge. Players should know that wins by themselves are not the best way to earn Bonds, as the amount is underwhelming compared to the amount that can be earned within a game. During a run, the player can complete various challenges from the Challenge Board to earn Bonds.
Tips and Tricks:
If the player wants to spend Bonds, they should consider these options: Certain Starting Items offer much better advantages than others. They can buy starting items from different stores they find in the starting lobby. The options to buy starting items include guns, armor, and other items. Raiding all towns with a gun is one of the best ways to gain Bonds quickly. If the player is unsure of their ability to reliably win the game or get far enough to obtain Bonds from a POI, they can refrain on buying starting items from the Shops in the lobby to save on Bonds. Doing multiple Challenges at a time also helps to earn Bonds, though some will contradict one another, such as A Fistful of Dollars vs Tycoon.
Patch history
As of the Zombie and Item System Rework Update, players need 4370 Bonds to buy all Classes and Trains. Bonds are the second currency added to the game, the other being Money. They also serve as the game's premium currency. Bonds can be collected and used in any session unlike Money, which can only be used in the same session it was earned in.
