The Brain in Jar is a unique and Valuable item in Dead Rails.
The Brain in Jar, also known as Nikola Tesla's head or simply the Brain, is a valuable item found in the Tesla Lab. It is one of the six items required to start the Scientist Zombie raid, as well as cause Nikola Tesla himself to appear at the end. The item can be sold for $250, making it the one of the most valuable items in the game — tied with an alive Unicorn and the Jade Mask which also sell for $250. The Brain in Jar is guaranteed to spawn in the Tesla Lab, meaning it provides a high guaranteed profit from the Tesla Lab.

Usage
The Brain in Jar can be taken from the Tesla Lab and sold at a Trading Post for $250. However, it's primary purpose is to be used to assemble Nikola Tesla on the assembly table, functioning as the head.
Lore
When Nikola Tesla and his workers were exposed to the bioweapon, Tesla left a note in his office stating that he needs to be taken to the "Top Scientists" to have him rebuilt. After he left the instructions, Tesla asks his workers to perform a total encephalectomy (brain removal) to stop the infection spreading to his brain. Eventually his brain was now in the jar, while his workers turned into zombies. Until the player found the Tesla Lab, Nikola Tesla was presumably alone inside the jar with nothing to do. Technically, his fate is determinant every game, depending on players' actions. Eventually, he was resurrected in the form of his jar head with a Werewolf body, likely by the protagonist of Normal Mode (this is proven to be canon due to the lore of Edison's Revenge, where he has been revealed to have gathered an army of Zombies, as well as the fact that he is guaranteed to spawn at the end of the game without building him).
Patch history
The Tesla's eyes will constantly stare at the nearest living thing (likely because it's alive, lonely, and bored so it wants something to see). This includes players and Wolves. According to the game's lore, Nikola Tesla had his brain and eyes removed and placed in a jar to prevent the Agent-15 infection from spreading to his brain — forming the backstory of the Brain in Jar. It is unknown why the brain sells for $250. Nikola Tesla is the third strongest enemy as of now, the strongest being the Easter Bunny and the second strongest being Goliath. The Brain In Jar is the only body part of Nikola Tesla that can be sold. The corpse itself can also be sold for $300 if it was reconstructed. Currently, this is the only item that emits a bubble effect and sound when moved. The Jar is a reused model from Crab Lab, another one of RiccoMiller's games. In real life, completely removing the brain from the body is generally fatal. In the game, he is presumably alive due to the liquid inside the jar or video game logic. Following the Zombie AI Improvements & Backend Rewrites update, another Brain In Jar could spawn, right where one would normally place the Brain to assemble Nikola Tesla. Because of a bug then, Nikola Tesla couldn't been assembled at all, so the Brain could be collected and sold, producing a bonus 250. This has been fixed in the Alien Class Buff update.
