Overview[1]

100 (Melee); 5s (Melee); Kerosene (Formerly) Goliath is a Miniboss in Dead Rails that spawns in Stillwater Prison shortly after a player first attempts to obtain the Excalibur.

The Goliath is a huge, muscular Zombie with a Helmet and a modified Cannon which can shoot cannonballs that can deal massive damage depending on the player's proximity. He also has a melee attack that deals a high amount of damage. He spawns behind the back wall near the Excalibur about 10 seconds after a player first interacts with the sword.

Strategies

In most cases the player should not attempt to actually pull out the sword until Goliath is dead. Instead, briefly interact with the sword (to make him spawn) and run to a safe area immediately so he doesn't catch you off guard. If the player has Electrocutioner, he can be killed in approximately 7 shots. It is possible to kill him with the Electocutioner while pulling out the sword. Note that this can be risky. You also need good RNG since the Tesla Lab has to appear before Stillwater Prison. Since Goliath has a long cooldown time for his ranged attack, the player can shoot him during its downtime and go into cover to avoid getting hit. Repeat this until he is dead. Once defeated, the player can opt to revive Goliath for difficult fights (such as the final battle), making it much easier. Players can also sell him for 100 if they need the money. The player can lure Goliath into the front gate and move to the side. Since that part of the entrance is smaller than Goliath, he will get stuck, making defeating him much easier. If the player is not armed properly or unexperienced it might be a good idea to leave Excalibur untouched (then Goliath will not spawn) and focus on raiding the prison buildings. When using a Rifle or any high accuracy gun aim for the gap in Goliath's helmet. It is not affected by his armor and is rendered as a headshot, dealing extra damage.

Patch history

Goliath is the first Miniboss in Dead Rails to be added. Goliath’s Weapon is a modified version of the Cannon without the wooden wheels. When Goliath first released, there was a bug where he could not use his cannon. This has since been fixed. Goliath is the third largest Enemy, slightly smaller than Nikola Tesla and significantly smaller than the Easter Bunny. Goliath couldn't use his weapon and had never been seen using it before the 21/6/2025 update. The Werewolf model is used for the Goliath, but the developers forgot to set its actual Fuel, making it equal to 5 which is the same as Werewolves. The first image in the gallery actually shows him in the Werewolf's idle pose. While he has a new head, a Helmet, green skin, and gray colored legs resembling pants, this is very similar to the Werewolf model otherwise. Goliath is technically considered a Werewolf inside the game's code. This can be confirmed by killing 49 Werewolves for the Werewolf Hunter challenge, then killing Goliath. The player should complete the challenge. However, his entity data is stored in the Covenant folder in the game files while his blood type is Zombie Blood. Goliath used to continuously play his walking animation, even when standing still. This was later fixed. Goliath's name is equal to the Biblical Character named "Goliath". Before update 21/6/2025 when facing him, it’d play “Outlaw Chase!” but it now plays “Stillwater Brawl!”. Fighting Goliath and raiding Stillwater still plays Outlaws Chase, only for a bit then switches back to Stillwater Brawl.
