Soldiers are friendly Entities that spawn in Fortified Towns, upon a player's death if they are using the President class, or inside Outlaw's Town once the bridge is cranked in Edison's Revenge gamemode. They will fire on any Enemy that gets too close. While they can be a lifesaver, they can still be killed like any other entities, making it important not to rely on them too much. Keep in mind that, although Soldiers are strong, they cannot hold off stronger enemies such as Werewolves well. This can lead to an untimely death. Although they can respawn (only Fortified Towns' ones), it's still better to have a look out and help them when needed. Soldiers come with 2 different Weapons: Bolt-Action Rifle or Maxim Gun. Each variant comes with a different outfit and weapon, and must reload whenever they run out of ammo. Bolt-Action Rifle Soldiers are more accurate than other ranged Enemies, and do high damage even at longer distances. They wear a khaki uniform, and can be a lifesaver if the Maxim Gunners run out of ammo. Maxim Gunners are only found at the Fortified Towns. They have extremely good aim and can kill any Enemies in just seconds, but will no longer protect you if they run out of ammo or aren't mounted on a Maxim Gun.

Lore
During the outbreak, there were some Soldiers (most likely from Fort Constitution) who were lucky to survive the Zombie Plague relocated themselves in the Fortified Towns, set up with defenses and walls to protect the last survivors while they were on their way to find the cure. On October 18th, 1899, Soldiers were relocated to the Outlaw's Town after being ordered by Edison Prime to fight Nikola Tesla. The Outlaws were likely captured or killed.
Patch history
There are 2 types of Soldiers: those with khaki uniforms who patrol the Town, and ones wearing blue shirts who operate the Maxims. Although Soldiers can spawn outside of Fortified Towns by any other means, Maxim Gunners can only be seen inside these, operating the Maxims. Similar to Maxim Gun Outlaws at Outlaw's Town, Maxim Gunners does not pose any threats to enemies if their Ammo runs out or if they aren't mounted on a Maxim Gun. However, if they can shoot, their aim are way better than Outlaws or foot Soldiers. Soldiers can be pushed using movable objects, allowing them to be transported onto the Train. However, they will teleport back to the Fortified Town at a specific distance when leaving the Fortified Town. Soldiers can be killed with any weapon, and their corpses can be used as fuel and dragged, and since they infinitely respawn, they're basically an infinite fuel source. Killing Soldiers can also be useful if you're using the Vampire Class as you can heal by dealing damage to them with Vampire knife and being covered in their blood. The same can be said for the Zombie class as you can eat their corpse for health. The latest update allows friendly units to follow the player, making the Primordial Soup a viable option for reviving soldiers. Due to the fact that they respawn infinitely, countless corpses could be farmed, allowing one to make an entire army of them. The Jade Sword and/or the Necromancer class can also be used to create an army of them.
