Death Horse

Animal, Exclusive EntityEntitiesDead Rails

Overview[1]

Death, or Death Horse, is one of the 4 Horses of the Apocalypse in Dead Rails. It is the 2nd Apocalypse Horse to spawn in The Wild, alongside with War, Famine and Pestilence.

The Death Horse is a white Horse with blue eyes and a golden saddle. It periodically emits sparkle particles. It is seen in the Wild and will be ridden by a Covenant Knight, with 5 Werewolves being found nearby. It spawns between the 30km and 40km mark. When ridden by a player, the Death Horse covers nearby friendly entities (except Horses and their variants) in Angel Tears. Due to relying on fluid mechanics, the horse's ability is ineffective outdoors when it's raining, as the rain will prevent players from getting covered in Angel Tears. This also means players using the Horse class cannot make use of the ability.

Bugs

In the recent update, riding the Death Horse will no longer be covered by Angel's Tears. That means it is the same thing as a normal Horse.

Strategies

The Death Horse synergizes very well with classes that depend on allied units such as Packmaster, President, and Eggslinger. The horse may spawn very far away from the track. A good way of finding it is looking out for the group of Werewolves that spawn with it. Death can spawn near the Castle, making it even riskier to obtain. If this happens, wait near the tracks and lure them closer to avoid too many Werewolves overpowering the player. It can be healed with Angel Tears by pouring some on the ground and dragging its torso/front legs onto the puddle. It can also be revived with Primordial Soup at the cost of becoming targettable by enemies. However, it does make Death immune to certain weapons that don't harm players. You can make an automatic healing station by letting a friendly Covenant Knight ride the Death Horse. It will make all nearby players covered in Angel Tears.

Patch history

Unlike regular leather saddles, the saddles of the Apocalypse Horses are completely gold and will always be attached to them by default. The golden saddles currently do not exist outside of being attached to the Apocalypse Horses, and therefore cannot be used on anything besides them. It is unknown if they have additional affects besides being visually distinct. Its name is ironic in a way, as its ability (healing) is contrary to its name. The Death Horse used to heal players until the Item Rework Update.
