Overview[1]
Blood Moon; Blood Biome Vampires are hostile supernatural Entities in Dead Rails.
Vampires are enemies with mostly average stats and threat measure. However, they have increased health and significantly higher detection range. They also have the ability to occasionally teleport. They usually target a point slightly ahead of their target's movement trajectory, but can sometimes teleport directly next to those they cannot pathfind to. Vampires can spawn in the reddest of nights, or they can show up during the castle fight. They also can spawn in groups, within the desert with the reddest of sand of the bunch. Vampire corpses are considered Valuable and can be sold at the Trading Post for $15 each.

Strategies
If the player is in a Safe Zone, they can sell the Vampire corpses for a free source of money. Vampires can be easy to kill with shotgun weapons, since they do enough damage to kill one in one shot (provided the player is close enough and enough pellets land on the head). Other weapons can also be used, though they might take more hits to kill a Vampire unless the player is using a damage boosting class. If they get near the Train, you can easily kill them using a melee weapon through the train. Note that they have a small chance to teleport directly next to you if they cannot pathfind to you for a while. It is recommended to fight them with ranged weapons outside, so it is easier to predict their movement. As soon as a Vampire teleports, immediately look around for it and start moving in a safe direction. If you are sprinting away from one, be prepared to jump over it when it teleports in front of you so you don't run into it on accident. Walking backwards and hitting them with a melee weapon should be done with caution since they can teleport directly behind the player at any time. Hiding in an enclosed location (such as inside a Building or a fortified Train) is not fully effective against them due to their teleport ability. Be ready to fight in case one teleports directly next to you.
Patch history
It is unknown why Vampires in the game do not take damage in the sun, considering both the Vampire class and vampires in general take damage from it. Vampires may be connected to Covenants, as seen by the covenant symbol and the vampire knife behind a cart in Sterling. Previously, Vampires had a drawing of wings on their back. The outfit was removed and replaced by a new outfit with a lighter black color. Vampires used to not have the ability to teleport, but now they can. The Vampire's ability to teleport was removed for a while, then added back during the Spooky Update. There is a Bug (similar to most Entities) where when a Vampire is killed, their limbs will fall. Most of the time when picked up, they will automatically reassemble. In rare cases, they will have some missing parts. For example, the player will only pick up their head instead of their entire body. Their corpse can also disappear in rare circumstances. Vampires use the “Monster Smile” face. Vampires attack players using the Vampire class despite both of them technically being vampires, though this is likely for balancing purposes. Vampires are the only entity with standard limbs that players can pick them up from the torso instead of other limbs like any other entities. Their limbs tend to move abnormally when they are dragged. Their limbs glitch more than most other entities of this type for an unknown reason. The Vampires (Along with Werewolves) do not have any lore explanation yet.
