Miner; 1 Component The Mining Helmet is an equippable, also a utility item in Dead Rails.
The Mining Helmet shines light in a 180 degree area in front of the user, which makes exploring at night much easier. However, unlike the standard Helmet, the Mining Helmet does not provide any extra protection when worn. The Mining Helmet is one of the strongest light sources in the game compared to other light sources, featuring 60 range and 1 brightness. However, it comes with the drawback of only lighting the area the player is facing at the time, which can be problematic if the player is riding a Horse at night since the Horse itself needs to rotate to shine the light on a different area. The Mining Helmet is occasionally sold at the General Store for $30. Additionally, the Miner class spawns in with a Mining Helmet. Dynamite Zombies also have a functional Mining Helmet, though it cannot be removed from the corpse. Mining Helmets are always active (even when not being worn), which allows them to be used as light sources when welded or being dragged as well.

Patch history
Formerly, due to a glitch where you could wear multiple Armor pieces at once, as such, you could have a mining helmet and a normal Helmet on at once. However, that glitch is patched since an unknown update. The Horse class can't wear the Mining Helmet properly, since the light will always shine to the left. Skeleton Miners and Dynamite Zombies both wear Mining Helmets, but only the Dynamite Zombie's Mining Helmet works. They do not drop their helmets when killed. This makes looking for Dynamite Zombies easier at night, since they are easily visible thanks to the light shining in front of them. This also makes them good makeshift light sources if you can't get a Torch or Lantern. Prior to the 04/11/2025 Update, the Mining Helmet was exclusive to the Miner class.
