Overview[1]
Outlaw's Town; Sheriff’s Office; Gunsmith; 2 Wood; 5 Metal; 1 Component Reload The Springfield Rifle is a Ranged Weapon in Dead Rails.
The Springfield Rifle is one of the ranged weapons in Dead Rails. It was added in the Presidential Update on 23/8/2025. The Springfield Rifle is a rifle-type weapon that only has one shot in the magazine and uses Rifle Ammo. The Springfield Rifle features one of the highest damages per shot in the game, tied with the Blunderbuss. Since the Springfield is a Musket, when not aiming it, is very inaccurate, having a very high spread. When the player aims with it, it fires with 100% accuracy, but the player walks very slowly while doing so. Extremely high damage per shot which is enough to kill all enemies with a bodyshot (except Werewolves and Bosses). Perfect accuracy while aiming, making the player able to deal headshot damage consistently. Very inaccurate when not aiming. While aiming the player becomes very slow. Difficult to find. Only 1 shot per magazine.

Strategies
By lining up enemies, the Springfield Rifle can kill several of them with one shot thanks to the bullet piercing mechanic. It can also kill Werewolves with one headshot, if the bullet manages to hit another limb after penetrating the head. The Springfield Rifle pairs well with a gun damage-boosting class, due to the potential to kill Werewolves in one shot, kill several more weaker enemies that are lined up, or deal massive damage to Bosses. The gun is only recommended to be used on high-health enemies.
Patch history
The Springfield Rifle is based on the rifle Springfield Muskets used during the American Civil War, when both Union and the Confederates used it as their weapon. Despite them not widely being used anymore by the U.S Army in 1899, it's an assumption that it was possibly still produced for hunting purposes used by individuals who could not afford more modern firearms. Despite this, hunters generally preferred more advanced repeating rifles (like the Rifle or Elephant Rifle) that were faster to load and more accurate than muzzle-loading muskets. When this gun was first added, it was called the Springfield Rifle. The term Rifle comes from the grooves inside of a gun's barrel, which is referred to as Rifling. The purpose of these grooves is to impart a spin on the projectile making it more accurate. Smoothbore guns lack these grooves and thus lack its accuracy. Prior to the Bite-Sized update, the Springfield Rifle was terribly inaccurate. The Springfield Rifle is very similar to the Blunderbuss, except that it shoots 1 projectile instead of 7 and uses Rifle Ammo. The similarities include damage numbers, reload animation, and having one round per magazine. The Springfield Rifle along with a lot of weapons introduced in Presidential Update, have collision. The Springfield Rifle, Blunderbuss, Elephant Rifle, and Flintlock Pistol reload times have been reduced after the October Bugfix update. The Springfield Rifle currently has a bug where other players holding the weapon appear to be holding it backwards. The same thing also happened to the Revolving Rifle and Flintlock Pistol.
