Description

Trick or Threat Town was the event map for the Halloween 2020 Event. Like other event maps, it had a specialized wave structure with special enemies. Upon triumphing, you would receive the Halloween 2020 badge, which would grant you the Toxic Gunner when the Frost Invasion Event started. You would also receive and 150 candies, which could be used in the Halloween Season. You had to be to play this map. This map used the Narrator as its narrator. In this map, players started off with 1,400 (1,500 if players were in the community group). All upgrade prices for all towers in this map were increased by 20%. Additionally, the base health was set to 200, regardless of players' levels. Citizen 1 and Citizen 2 units also spawned on the last wave of this map.

Design & Path

Trick or Threat Town took place in a town by the coast, surrounded by hills. There was a cemetery, which was a small space enclosed by gates. When the match began, the cemetery gates opened. In the cemetery, there were many tombstones, small buildings, scarecrows and a church. Mounds can be seen around the map, where cliff towers can be placed on. A stone bridge can be seen crossing the ravine; some crashed cars could be seen near the start of the bridge. Several residential houses can be seen on the other side of the bridge. There was also a giant clock tower. On one side of the map was a railroad bridge over the coast in which a ghost train appeared on wave 10. A wooden bridge also spans part of the coast. The stone path began in a cave surrounded by a forcefield wall in the cemetery. The path circled around a central mound then around another larger mound. It then used the bridge to cross the ravine to reach the other side. The path eventually ended at a cave, near to where the houses were.

Story

After discovering a God Cube fragment in Trick or Threat Town, The Umbra sends out Lord Sinister to collect it. The T.D.S. Organization, after detecting this, dispatched multiple of their agents to defeat Lord Sinister. While doing so, they are in constant contact with a figure called just the Narrator. By the end of their battle, the town comes back to life and the town's citizens help defeat Lord Sinister. This leads to large destruction of the town, leading to most of its population abandoning it. This includes three brothers, who while leaving, find the Narrator with a God Cube shard. With the promise of Lord Exo bringing the town back to its former glory, the three brothers, Kronus, Ramiel and Marcellus all start the Children of Exo cult.

Rewards

The game calculated how much and Candies you received based on how many waves you survived and if you won a match. During periods of 50% more (08:00 UTC Friday – 08:00 UTC Sunday), any earned was multiplied by 1.5x. The VIP gamepass also multiplied any earned by 1.25x. Any rewards that end in a decimal point was rounded down, no matter the first figure of the leading decimal. Rewards were calculated as: There is also one badge which you could obtain when playing this map, which had additional rewards alongside the badge. It was

Wave Structure

In Trick or Threat Town, the formula for calculating wave bonus on each wave is: (180 + (200 × Waves Completed)) ÷ Players The waves in Trick or Threat Town could not be skipped. They followed these timings: Bolded names indicates an enemy type's debut. ---- Wave Structure

Strategy

Do not bring Farms as they do not grant any additional cash. If you need any additional cash, then you can use the Cowboy. This was done so that it encourages teamwork, as opposed to one's own ambitions. Long-range towers, like the Ranger and Sniper, are very useful on this map. They can be placed on the central mounds and can cover a good part of the map. On the last wave (wave 18), Citizen 1 and Citizen 2 units spawn to help you defeat Lord Sinister. While they do not do much damage against the boss, they help in taking out other enemies. Do not rely too much on these as they are generally weak, and should be treated as minimal extra damage rather than a main source of damage. At the beginning of the wave, five random Citizens spawn. All upgrade prices for all towers in this map have increased by 20%. To reduce the effect of the price increase, you can use the DJ Booth to reduce the upgrade prices of towers.

Update History

31 October 2020 - Overhaul v1.1.0 Trick or Threat Town added. Tower placement cost is not increased. 8 May 2021 - Overhaul v1.3.0 Trick or Threat Town removed.

Trivia

The lights illuminated the map as the match began, only to be switched off before the first wave commenced. They were rekindled during the final wave, symbolizing the town's resurgence in its battle against the looming threat. The ghost train that appeared at wave 10 symbolized the waves getting harder. It disappeared when you defeat Lord Sinister. When the train left, you could have seen it go through the mountain and float off into the distance. Trick or Threat Town was the first map to have narration when you triumph on the last wave. Trick or Threat Town was also the first map to have dialogue when you lose (though only on the last wave). The clock tower in this map only had ten ticks instead of the standard 12 ticks, meaning that there was only 10 hours on the clock, instead of the standard 12 hours. This map had a similar name to a map from R2DA. This was the first event map to have a price increase for the tower upgrades. The placement cost only increased visually, the actual placement cost did not change at all due to a bug. Unlike other maps, you could not skip waves on Trick or Threat Town. The song that played at Wave 10 was a remix of Zero Project - Gothic. When you triumphed on this map, the Narrator would say "You did it! You defeated the pumpking!". This may be a reference to a Terraria boss of the same name. The second form of The Haunted Past, the map for Act II of the Lunar Overture Event, resembled this map.
