Description

The Sniper is one of the two starter towers obtained upon joining the game for the first time, along with the Scout. It is a long-ranged cliff tower with a slow firerate, possessing high damage per shot. Its utility comes from its very long range, allowing the Sniper to target enemies from far away. It deals high damage at a rather slow firerate. Slower enemies are vulnerable to the Sniper for long periods of time due to the Sniper's range, but faster enemies may be able to bypass it. Because the Sniper is a cliff tower, it can detect Flying enemies. The Sniper can also detect hidden enemies at Level 2+ and damage lead enemies at Level 3+. It is immune to all stuns by default. The Sniper is considered a solid early to mid-game tower, being able to take down many enemy types due to its triple detections, making it useful for Hardcore Mode and other harder gamemodes. Towards late game, the Sniper becomes inefficient against stronger enemies like the Slow Boss and the Fallen Giant due to its insufficient damage output, or fast enemies like the Bolt and the Yeti due to their speed, so it is recommended to get a stronger tower by then. The Sniper has no placement limit.

Strategy

The Sniper is effective early on during the game due to its cheap cost and long range. Its earlier levels allow it to kill most enemies in one shot for a cheap price. It can also be useful against Hidden enemies, as upgrading it to Level 2 is quite cheap. The Sniper should not be relied on too much due to its slow firerate and overall low DPS. The slow firerate can result in you being easily overwhelmed later on in the game by hordes. The Sniper has lower DPS than other starter towers, but to compensate, it has a relatively long range, so it can keep shooting enemies for a while. You can pair this with the Commander or the Medic so that it will shoot faster. Later on in the game, to maximize damage, you should change the Sniper's targeting to Strongest, or replace them with stronger towers like Ranger. The DJ Booth can easily expand the range of the Sniper to cover most, if not all, of the map. The Sniper can be used as a cheap way to deal with Flying enemies that appear early on during the game. It can also damage Lead enemies at Level 3+, making it rather useful against flying and lead combinations like Lead Balloon, although there are better alternatives, like the Ace Pilot or Military Base. The Sniper is one of the few towers that can damage all enemies, no matter their immunities, when upgraded to Level 3+. Despite it being able to damage all enemies, it is generally not worth using the Sniper late on during the game due to its low DPS and slow firerate.

Patch history

When the game was in Alpha, the Sniper's upgrade stats were not displayed on its upgrade description. It was simply referred to as "sans long gun". Weirdly, the Sniper costs 100 Coins to unlock, according to the store, despite being given for free. This is because prior to the MEGA Update, the Sniper used to cost 100 Coins to purchase from the store. The Sniper is also the only cliff tower to have no placement limit. The Sniper is loosely based on the Sniper from Tower Battles. The Sniper used to appear alongside the Pyromancer, Scout, Commander and Minigunner on the "Triumph" screen before the Community Maps Update. Formerly, the Sniper used to have the longest range in the entire game not counting any admin-exclusive towers. After the Overhaul Update, this record is given to the Ranger. The Sniper, Frost Blaster, Engineer, DJ Booth, bottom path Pursuit and Commander are the only towers that can damage all enemies, no matter their immunities.
