Overview[1]

Abandoned Buildings; Wooden Train; Stillwater Prison; 2 Linen; 2 Metal; 2 Component The Ballista is a Turret in Dead Rails.

The Ballista uses a special type of ammo called Ballista Bolts. It deals high damage, making it a good choice to take down enemies, such as Werewolves. You can find the Ballista at the Stillwater Prison or already in the flatcar of the Wooden Train being mounted, or you can find them not to be welded, in Towns and Abandoned Buildings. Effective for dealing with high health Enemies from a distance. Available in many Locations throughout the map. Efficient at taking down Werewolves. Extremely powerful during the final wave of Enemies at Outlaw's Town (if you chose Nikola Tesla to not spawn) Offers incredible accuracy. The Wooden Train: Spawns with a ballista. Spawns with a single box of Ammo. Has an area to the left of the cabin that the ballista can be mounted to in order to aim the ballista forward in a nearly full 90 degree cone.ecent amount of Easy to headshot and high headshot multiplier, can one-shot a Werewolf. Good deposit claims. Lacks full 360° coverage; your player model obscures everything behind you. Slow reload time. Becomes ineffective if more than one Enemy gets too close. Reduced effectiveness against crowds. Ammo can be bought, but not the weapon itself. High cost of ammo, ammo is not always available for purchase. Nearly obsolete in solo runs. Can be a bit tricky to weld if you are unfamiliar. Due to it being a projectile, the Ballista Bolt does not travel straight or hit the target directly from where you aimed (i.e: You're aiming for the head) and you may need to position your aim in order to hit that area.

Strategies

The Ballista can be used effectively and profitably against werewolves and other large enemies due to the cheap price of the Ballista bolts and average damage. The Ballista takes a long time to reload, so it is best used in combination with barbed wire and bear traps. The Ballista does not exhaust ammo quickly, and you will only need about 6-7 boxes at most per run. Move the train far ahead of tanky targets like werewolves. This will give you a lot of time to take out the target. If you have many ballistas, you can also weld multiple to one side of the train and "ripple fire" them (fire one ballista and switch while the other is reloading).

Trivia

The term Ballista comes from Latin and Ballistes from Greek, both meaning "to throw" The Ballista is the only Turret and one of the Items which doesn't have title and description, alongside Arrows, Tumbleweed, Camera, Crate and Ladder. The Ballista's bullets does knockback when successfully killing an enemy, making it the first ever weapon to do so. Category:Items Category:Weapons Category:Turret Weapons Category:Welded Weapons
