Aurora Borealis Announcement Message

"Tonight is the illusive Aurora Borealis! Luck is drastically multiplied."

Obtainment

The Aurora Rod can be bought for 70,000C$ C$ only during an Aurora Borealis event, which causes the rod to spawn near Synth's store in Vertigo. It costs 570,000 C$ if you buy and use an Aurora Totem or the player may obtain one from a treasure chest (1.6%).

Enchantments

The best enchants for this rod are: For fishing more easily and/or for perfect catches, Controlled, Resilient or Mystical. Note that Mystical is an exalted enchant, and will require Exalted Relics, which are better used on late-game rods. For faster times to pair with it's mutation passive, Swift or preferably Hasty. Especially during the Aurora Borealis to maximize its value gain. Other alternatives are: For overall stat improvement, Quality. For fishing more easily and/or for perfect catches, Steady. For improvement, Lucky, Divine, or best of all Immortal. Note that Immortal is an exalted enchant, and will require Exalted Relics, which are better used on late-game rods. For larger sized fish, Sea King or better yet Sea Overlord. Note that Sea Overlord is an exalted enchant, and will require Exalted Relics, which are better used on late-game rods.

Notes

The exact increase in the average value boost for fish caught between the Mythical Rod and the Aurora Rod is a 12.33% boost in favor of Mythical Rod. During the Aurora Borealis, Aurora Rod surpasses Mythical Rod due to its increased Aurora mutation catch rate (30%). The Aurora mutation passive has an average multiplier of 1.825x per fish normally and 2.375x per fish during an aurora (you make on average 82.5% and 137.5% more money compared to no passive respectively), making it arguably the best passive for making money. Rod of the Depths and arguably Trident Rod are still better overall because of it’s high stat of resilience, control and it’s unique passive.

What does this mean?

Fisch's in-game currency. A fish's value is its documented average sell price in C$ — what it sells for at its average weight. A rod's value is its documented shop cost. Both are in-game facts from the community wiki, not a trading consensus. Values are not comparable across games.

Trivia

This is one of the two rods that can be only purchased in Vertigo, with the other being the Nocturnal Rod. The Aurora Rod, along with the Aurora Bait, is the only way to get fish with the Aurora mutation. The chance for an Aurora mutation can go up to 45% if used during an Aurora Borealis with an Aurora Bait.
